Appreciate the very detailed explanation. I’m a frequent business traveler. In this case, the gate was open but per the pilot, something was blocking the way to get to the gate. Hence I tagged the airport for awareness. Hope this helps.

HI, Joanne. I see that UA2446 is now at a gate in LGA. There are numerous causes for arriving at an airport a bit early, including tailwinds. We know all of our valued customers are eager to get to a gate and deplane. Airlines typically have a limited number of gates at each airport, and the schedule for gating is usually set up so that an incoming flight is arriving just as the flight occupying the gate is departing. Rarely do aircraft leave a gate early. It is best to expect, in the case of early arrival, that your aircraft will wait for a gate for an on-time arrival based on how most airlines and airports operate their gate schedules.
