“Yet” might just be my favourite word.
Here are 3 reasons why:
(1) "Yet" reframes failure as progress
When you add "yet" to a statement, you’re saying that your current state is temporary and that improvement is not only possible but inevitable with effort and time.
(2) "Yet" helps me persist
One of the biggest reasons people quit is because they believe their current struggles are permanent.
They think, "If I’m not good at this now, I’ll never be good at it."
But the word "yet" reminds you that skill-building takes time.
(3) "Yet" stops me from judging myself
When you’re hard on yourself for not being where you want to be, it’s easy to spiral into negative self-talk.
"I’ll never get this right," "I’m just not cut out for this," "Why even bother?"
These thoughts can be paralyzing.
But adding "yet" to your internal dialogue introduces self-compassion.
So... here’s what to try this week:
1. Notice when you think or speak from limitation.
2. Add one “yet” at the end.
That's it.
Extraordinary results often start with an ordinary yet.
