There are 3 problems with our media that are fueling polarization: 1. The closing of 2,000 local papers, which are typically not very partisan; 2. Cable news maximizing audience share by adopting political stances (Fox); and 3. Social media’s supercharging of conspiracy theories.
For those frustrated with the two-party duopoly let’s fight to make Ranked Choice Voting a reality. The fact is that self-identified independents now outnumber Dems or Republicans. Ranked Choice Voting would make our politics much more dynamic and responsive. @fairvote@lessig
Facebook is now worth $650 billion largely due to the monetization of our data. How much of that value are users seeing? At this point Facebook should be paying users for the privilege of using our data.
This is why, if we want the beautiful, generous, healthy, low-carbon, prosperous homes, neighbourhoods and cities we all say we want, the only way to get them is to redesign planning & development to give power to the people who are going to actually live in them.
