Overdue 🧵on social care charging reform. It's been more than 2 weeks since the govt announced delay, but I wanted to let my anger and frustration settle. I’ve spent much time & energy working on this issue so here are my thoughts. 1/22
@lewis_goodall @sheepsheed1 A special shout-out to the restaurant phone apps that want you to pay in advance before you have any idea of the quality of food or service. If I wanted that, I would go to a cheap take-away, not a supposedly upscale pub.
@drjameslmurray It was so bad, I actually wondered whether we were part of some Customer Experience A/B testing experiment? Maybe there was a parallel boat running w/ self-service restaurant with actual food, plates, metal knives and forks and seats that didn’t make your bum numb after 10mins?
First trip on #poferries for 3 years for annual’ holiday trip to France. After a 1 hour check in process, massive disappointment all round to find no longer a restaurant onboard - just a pre boxed lukewarm inedible breakfast (£9:99!!). Next time we will take #leshuttle.
@HeathrowAirport What a lovely idea. Ignoring the fact that most people in half term travelling are families w/ children who are ineligible to use the gates. 2 hours after landing and I am still waiting for my bags to arrive - spent an hour already in the queue w/ small children for immigration
2 hours since landed at #Heathrow and still no sign of bags. Spent an hour in a queue for immigration. First trip in 2 years - way to go to encourage people to start travelling again
What will it take to crack the huge backlog of treatment that has built up as a result of the pandemic?

The Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) has published its latest Mortality Monitor.
Key points:
- Results this week are affected by timing of Bank Holidays. These balance out over the year.
- There were 9% more deaths than if death rates were the same as this week in 2019
Privately-funded hospital activity was 5% lower in December 2020 compared with the previous year - which is the closest to 2019 levels since the beginning of the pandemic. Find out more in our latest Covid-19 update: https://t.co/BuWq4XMWAJ

We’re not expecting a CMI release today but @ActuaryByDay has done his usual instant reaction to the latest @ONS weekly deaths.
