Whole milk is not whole.

It comes off the cow at whatever she made that morning, 4%, 5%, more in the Jersey.

At the plant the cream is stripped off the lot of it.

Then a measured amount is put back, to exactly 3.5%, because that is the legal number for the word whole, and the rest of the cream is sold separately at a better margin.

Then it is forced through a nozzle at pressure so the fat can never rise again, because a cream line makes customers ask questions.

Then it is heated to 72 degrees so it keeps for a fortnight in a lorry.

Then a vitamin is sprayed back in, because the heat took the one that was there.

Then the word whole is printed on the front, in a green field, with a cow.

The whole milk on the shelf has been taken apart, sold in pieces, reassembled to a minimum and labelled with the name of the thing it was before.

The milk at the farm gate is whole because nobody has been near it.

That is the one with the warning on it.

A tumour ferments sugar, and a ketone cannot be fermented. Everything that follows is chemistry.

Sugar can be burned without oxygen. A ketone can't.

Sugar can be burned without working mitochondria. A ketone can't.

Sugar is taken up by a tumour many times faster than by the tissue around it. That is how the scan finds it.

Sugar raises insulin, and insulin is a growth signal. Ketones rise only when insulin falls.

Sugar gets turned into lactate, which the tumour dumps on its neighbours to clear itself a path. Ketones leave nothing to dump.

Sugar is there at every meal, every snack and in every drink on the ward trolley. Ketones appear when the sugar stops.

Your brain, your heart and your muscle switch between the two without complaint. They've done it every night of your life.

A cancer cell is the one customer in the body that struggles with the switch, and it's the one we keep the sugar flowing for.

Otto Warburg described the fermenting tumour in the 1920s and collected a Nobel in 1931.
