Everybody's building a brain. Nobody's asking why.
The real answer isn't productivity or competitive advantage.
It's: because I can. Because it's fun.
Same reason someone painted on a cave wall a very long time ago.
One Week with OpenClaw - Hype and Reality
After one week of working with OpenClaw here my takeaways:
There is incredible potential. This thing is real and it will continue to have an impact, likely massive. If it's not OpenClaw, then it will be a tool similar to it.
Here is the reality as I've experienced it one week in.
The Hype: I now discount anything you see where people say it replaces an employee or it magically takes on whole workloads for them. What they're doing is either exceedingly simply, massively embellished, has tons of work put into it, or is an outright lie. The amount of effort required to get good work output consistently is still very high. That said, it's totally worth it, and dramatically less work than scripting or doing integrations manually, but be prepared for a lot of effort.
Rough Edges: At this point you need to be technical or wiling to get very hands-on. Yes, AI can and will help with that. But even If you're technical, be prepared for a lot of detailed work and debugging if you want to get meaningful things to work. That said, it's getting better by the day, literally. And at this very moment, being non-technical and trying this out for some real work would have to be painful. On the other hand, it's moving so fast that in a week or two this may have changed completely.
A Very Junior Employee: Expect to train OpenClaw like you would any very junior employee. The results, especially initially are very mixed. It's a bit of a mind bender because on the one hand you can get PhD-level analysis, and the next second it forgets to store the procedure you just agreed to. Remembering to do stuff consistently, learning how to pick up certain skills, etc., does not come natural to it just yet. Be prepared to train and be prepared to feel frustrated to the point of arguing with the machine.
Security: They are sharp edges. The number of attack vectors even with minimal integration is mind-blowing. This has gotten better already and will keep improving literally by the day. And it will also never be 100% safe. But at this very moment, to build something on OpenClaw that interacts with the world has likely more attack vectors than you (or I) could think of. By way of example, even some of the skills on the OpenClaw repo have been found to be vulnerable to attack or to be outright designed for exploitation. Again, this will be different a week or a month from now, but at this very moment, that's what you get.
All that said: It has been a very long time since I've had THAT MUCH FUN with technology.
It's a brave new world. Go play and explore. You likely won't be safe, but the adventure is amazing.

When your travels get you close to the North Star, it stops being useful as a navigational aid.
Once you've traveled past the North Star, it's actually south of you.
Don't confuse metaphors, navigation aids, labels, ... with the truth.
When you find actual truth, please message me urgently.
Of course I can't make meaningful decisions or trade-offs if I'm pursuing someone else's dream or someone else's vision. How could I?
I try to remember this whenever I feel stuck.
Just and the Impossible Ask
Whenever I hear the word “just” I know bullshit is afoot. I'm talking about “just” as in "just don't make any mistakes", or "if the two of you could just get along". It's the impossible made nice and palatable ...

@RpsAgainstTrump If you research the nature of the changes, it appears that all three countries now state that the US will actually enforce their existing laws and that travelers should be prepared for that.
If that’s indeed true, then the headlines seem way more exciting than the facts. 🤷🏼♂️
I totally agree. I met my wife of now 20 years in a random bar. Incidentally, I also had just given up on trying to find a partner as well as dating. 🤷🏼♂️
This is a message for single men that are tired of online dating
I made a post 6 months ago about what I should text a woman that I was going on a date with
The date was great. In fact we have spent almost every day since then together
Now she’s my girlfriend
Guys if you’re frustrated with online dating I have some advice
Delete your dating apps and start going out every single day
You need to the gym, go to the grocery store, go work from cafes
You need to try a new group fitness class every other day, go to yoga and pilates, and join meetups for things you’re interested in
Be someone who is out and about
Talk to strangers, make friendly conversation, add value, and don’t be sketchy
Find fun things happening in town that you can invite people to
I guess that’s pretty complicated so try this for now:
Start saying yes to every single invitation that you get
What you want as a single guy- and this is key- is IRL surface area
You want to get out of your home and off your phone so that you improve your odds to meet someone special in real life
That’s what I am calling your IRL surface area
I knew I needed this IRL surface area because I do bad on dating apps
See I’m not 6-feet tall and I don’t have a chiseled jaw
But I do feel comfortable talking to strangers
I met my girlfriend at the pool on a hot summer Tuesday evening
My friend Katelyn invited me to come hang out with her and her friends
I was busy with work and I didn’t want to go but thank God I did
I went to the pool that day because I wanted to say Yes to everything that would help me find a girlfriend
Sitting at home doing work = No
Going to Barton Springs Pool = Yes
She was sitting up on the hill reading a book. I mustered up the courage to go chat but that’s another story
For now just go out. Every day.
Make it a challenge if you want: Go out every day for 10 days straight starting tomorrow
Try new restaurants, coffee shops, all the things I said above
Just start talking to people and doing the things that the person you want to date might do too
You can find a girlfriend if you get more IRL surface area
Here’s a photo of us on the beach yesterday
Good women are out there. You just have to put in the work
