Yes: handwriting still matters.
A new study has confirmed that writing by hand activates far more complex and widespread neural networks in the brain than typing, underscoring its importance for learning and memory.
Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology used a high-density EEG cap with 256 electrodes to record brain activity in university students. They found that the intricate, sensory-rich movements involved in handwriting, especially cursive, trigger highly synchronized brain waves across extensive areas of the parietal and central regions. These coordinated patterns are strongly linked to memory formation, cognitive processing, and encoding new information.
In contrast, typing, which involves repetitive, simpler finger movements, produced significantly less neural connectivity and engagement. The difference was striking: the brain appears much less active during digital writing.
The researchers conclude that the unique motor and sensory experience of holding a pen plays a key role in brain development and learning. As a result, they argue that handwriting instruction should remain a core part of education to support deeper comprehension and cognitive growth in the next generation.

@SpeakerJohnson Perhaps the question is more about HOW the government protects its people and upholds the law. And, of course, the "Government" is made up of Individuals. Therefore, HOW the "Government" behaves is a direct reflection on who those Individuals are.
.@senwarren@SenMarkey#ProtectMedicaid and SNAP. People with disabilities rely on these programs to get food, health care, and services. No one should go hungry or without needed health care!
@SenateGOP how much can a family earning $100K expect to save? What about families earning $500k? Show us (your constituents) some actual math. How will those who lose Medicaid see an "increase" in annual income when these big beautiful tax cuts are implemented?
@SenateGOP Define "middle class". Who will be eligible for significant tax cuts? And how much can a family earning, say $100K annually, expect to save annually? Tell your constituents how much money they are saving, and how much millionaires and billionaires are going to save.
.@RepMoulton@senwarren@SenMarkey I know you are aware that Medicaid is a lifeline! People with disabilities & families like ours rely on Medicaid to support their health & daily lives. Any cuts to Medicaid hurt those who rely on it. #ProtectMedicaid & save lives!

If I may, there’s something I need to get off my chest.
As democracy remains under siege, it has been frustrating to watch how the press covers politics these days.
I am reminded by lessons that came to me during the Nixon years as a CBS News correspondent, which I’ll add here:
1. Enough with Both-sides-ism
When one side lies intentionally and repeatedly, they are no longer entitled to the benefit of the doubt. They should be held to account, right away. Do not simply repeat the narratives they spew.
2. Prioritize Live Fact-Checking
Rigorous and robust fact-checking is the best defense against misinformation, intentional lies, and deflection.
If Trump says the sky is green, the story isn’t that the sky is now green; the story is that the sky is still blue and Trump got it wrong.
3. Ask Lawmakers Hard Questions
Ask about the fundamental principles of democracy. Push them to go on the record that Biden won the 2020 election.
Ask if they support the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
This writing is not to offer any claim of knowing it all. Your correspondent has made his share of mistakes, but after more than seven decades I believe I have picked up a few useful guideposts.
Good journalism is always worth it. Our democracy depends on it.

@RpsAgainstTrump I don't agree with Sen. Romney on several things. (That is a normal part of being human, btw--not to agree all the time with a fellow human). I DO have total respect for him because he has integrity, something hard to find these days.
