Conservation of energy is not a rule, it is a consequence ✍️
Everyone learns in school that energy cannot be created or destroyed. In 1918 Emmy Noether proved something deeper: that this is true only because the laws of physics work the same way today as they did yesterday. Every conservation law turns out to be a symmetry in disguise.
Energy is conserved because the laws do not care what time it is; momentum is conserved because they do not care where you are; angular momentum is conserved because they do not care which way you are facing. Break the symmetry and the conservation law goes with it, which is why in an expanding universe, where there is no fixed sense of the same moment everywhere, there is no meaningful way to add up the total energy at all. Noether did this work while unpaid, having been denied a university position on the grounds of her sex, and lecturing at Göttingen under Hilbert's name.

@SierraSpaceCo Great news. Dream Chaser should provide some unique capabilities that the US civilian space program has been lacking since the retirement of the Space Shuttle.
Today, we're excited to share that on a single mission, Dream Chaser® will serve national security, commercial, and civil customers, proving out an operational model where one platform supports the full range of America's space priorities.
"As the space domain has become increasingly contested, Dream Chaser has evolved into exactly what America needs: a strategic national capability built on commercial innovation and investment," said our CEO, Daniel Jablonsky. "We're not just talking about the multi-use space economy, we're operating it."
We built Dream Chaser—America's Spaceplane®—to be a commercial, reusable, runway-capable spaceplane, engineered for deployable wings, hypersonic flight control, autonomous reentry, and sub-1.5g runway landings.

Quantum mechanics, that mysterious, confusing discipline, which none of us really understands but which we know how to use. It works perfectly, as far as we can tell, in describing physical reality, but it is a ‘counter-intuitive discipline’, as social scientists would say. Quantum mechanics is not a theory, but rather a framework, within which we believe any correct theory must fit.

Today in 1967, all four Beatles met at Paul's home to discuss the future of the band after their manager Brian Epstein's untimely death.
They devised a plan to move forward with a project called "Magical Mystery Tour" and decided to postpone a trip to India until later on…
From all of us at The Beatles Story, we're wishing a huge congratulations to Sean Ono Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl on the birth of their son, John Lennon's grandson, Aurelius

“If you lived two or three millennia ago, there was no shame in holding that the Universe was made for us. It was an appealing thesis consistent with everything we knew; it was what the most learned among us taught without qualification. But we have found out much since then.
Defending such a position today amounts to willful disregard of the evidence, and a flight from self-knowledge.”
