@DMcWilliams_UK When the Moscow St Petersburg line was planned it was proposed to go by a number of smaller cities. The Tsar picked up a ruler and drew a line on the map saying “This is the route”. However his line included a bend where his thumb was and the line until well after WW2 had a bend
@WalkerMarcus Nigel Lawson aligned capital gains tax, income tax and inheritance tax. If the rate is sensible rather than punitive this makes excellent sense as it removes incentives to convert income into capital gains or vice versa
@FrMatkin@WalkerMarcus@FrMatkin might be wise to avoid visiting England. Imagining the death of the king is high treason and while his genitalia may no longer be separated from his person he might not enjoy being nibbled by the rats which inhabit His Majesty's less salubrious premisses.
@HCH_Hill I think in fact she is breaking her pilgrimage to attend the debate. The pilgrimage was planned long before the date of the debate was announced
@AndrewGraystone@ChurchTimes The finding was made by the President of Tribunals who is a Lord Justice of Appeal and whose reasoning is publicly available on the Church's website. It is hard to think of a way of determining such questions that would more meet criteria for doing so justly.
@TheJupitersays @MadsDavies@ChurchTimes@SewellMartin@ArchbishopSarah@BishopSouthwark@JonathanHFrost@Rgt71Robert Although he must have been elected by the CNC process, the late Queen made him bishop of Ely on the advice of David Cameron. His later appointments to Lincoln were made on the advice of Johnson and Sunak. In 1997 the newly elected Tony Blair turned down recs for Liverpool.
@DAaronovitch@RobertJenrick@ZiaYusufUK And how many people will be held while their status is investigated? And after the Windrush scandal how many legally here will be deported?
A sad day for Conservatism:
👉Support for specific foreign policy should not be conditional for MP candidacy
👉Leaving the ECHR won’t magically fix migration
👉The quality of UK political debate & statecraft is declining
Let's keep the bar high.
My thoughts on @TimesRadio
@BritainElects Do you have figures for Labour after 1966 and Oct 1974 and Conservatives after 197O and 1979? In all cases govts dealing with difficult legacies
@LibHistoryToday@DanJTPitt This is not quite right. He led the Liberals in the Commons up to 1880 while Granville led the Liberals in the Lords. He was Leader of the House of Lords after Salisbury's retirement in 1902 - the Conservatives and Liberal Unionists were separate parties.
