🇬🇧Reducing health inequalities one of the new cross-government missions.
🎯The right targets, coordination and strong accountability will be needed to get there.
🤝We're ready to work with the new team on this to #MakeHealthEqual! @wesstreeting @GwynneMP
Will the new government pass the test of leadership on #HealthInequalities?

Labour’s manifesto committed it to ‘a fairer Britain, where everyone lives well for longer’.
In a blog and working paper, @joefd says international experience tells us that, to reach that aim, we need a health mission delivery plan ⬇️

Appropriately, our consultation submission has been received like a rocket. Reminds me of the #moonshot analogy in my initial blog proposing a health equity target.
The PM is set to announce a new set of short-term targets to back up his 5 missions. But NHS access targets alone will not deliver national renewal.
While it's not a quick-win, he needs to keep his eye on the bigger prize.

Amid the prep for Starmer's speech on Thursday, No10 should consider how other governments have embedded health & wellbeing as a cross-government mission - using targets, accountability and action plans.

As part of a comprehensive strategy, accompanied by investment, health equity targets did help reverse a long-term trend in widening inequality in the 2000s.

Later on I passed them again taking the decorations back off again, and I asked him why?
Apparently Prescott had objected to having blue decorations in his office, and demanded they swapped them round for the red ones!
🎄🌹
I have a very gentle John Prescott anecdote that says something about his political tribalism.
When I worked in the Cabinet Office he was the Minister in the building next door (Admiralty House).
Two Christmas trees were procured and went up in each building, on with blue and silver baubles and one red and gold. I chatted to the guys putting our one up as we used to play football with them.
How do we reduce the life expectancy gap?
Where you live could drastically impact how long you live.

The final sentence of this piece on whether the Chancellor is an economist: “Reeves studied philosophy, politics and economics Oxford University and did a master's degree in economics at the London School of Economics.” 😘 https://t.co/EcLNwxkK2L
Homes that are too cold or difficult to heat can lead to serious illness. Cold homes have been shown to lead to a higher risk of stroke, respiratory infection, and falls.

@CounsellingSam @GwynneMP @EmmaLewellBuck I don't speak for him, but he met @CovidJusticeUK recently https://t.co/osXPGtHSmq
- maybe because they don't constantly troll him.
The panel, chaired by @DJDevakumar, features parliamentary under Secretary of State for Health @GwynneMP, @Debbie_abrahams, inequalities expert @MichaelMarmot and our wonderful members and campaigners @Lobstar_A and Prof Naomi Fulop.
This was it! Our Parliamentary launch event to sign up now more than 60 MPs to support #MakeHealthEqual.
Big thanks to @GwynneMP for a barnstorming speech, and @EmmaLewellBuck for hosting.
Hello from Westminster! 👋
We've been at the Houses of Parliament today to launch the Health Equals Parliamentary Champions Network – a new network of MPs who will campaign alongside us to #MakeHealthEqual.
Here's why it's important. 🧵
I missed this speech by @GwynneMP on #WorldMEDay - all more powerful because he's speaking whilst visibly suffering chronic fatigue symptoms
- his experience of #LongCOVID
- the need for work & welfare to understand #CFSME
- the need for research
https://t.co/GJkkdljFXy
@CounsellingSam @GwynneMP @EmmaLewellBuck Andrew has #LongCovid himself and has consistently spoken up on behalf of people the condition and with #MECFS as recognised by the community.
Our @health_equals Parliamentary Champions page is now live!
Check out our endorsements from @EmmaLewellBuck @AfzalKhanMCR & @SarahOwen_ and ask your MP to sign up.
