@brendancahill_ This is even more true for snappers! There is no difference in snappers 8-10 and 50. Absolutely the more you go the larger benefit of a doubt you get. Good grades, great tape, weight room and find a great local coach to help with what your HS coaches can’t!
You only got “it was a running start” analysis on the broadcast…I wish they would have better explained how this worked, so allow me…
1. Watch Schooler’s eyes. He’s not timing the snap…he’s timing the *kicker’s sequence*. They should have shown replays of that!!!…you can bet it was identical kick-to-kick. And somebody picked up on as much for the Pats, so perfect.
2. He’s not even looking at the long snapper. He knows the amount of time from kick sequence steps to snap to kick. You’d have to KNOW that was going to be the case from film study—repeatedly spot on timing—or you’d risk running into the line or jumping offsides
3. This was an amazing block made possible by film study. Now every ST operation they face will need to change up kick sequence timing play to play or risk have this happening to them. Which I’m sure kickers—the creatures of timing & habit that they are—aren’t gonna love. Game changing kinda chess move here. Absolutely love it.
@brendancahill_ Also shows coaches you are a leader! Can make coaches decision to kick the FG easier if those extra reps led to more good kicks at practice
@brendancahill_ 💯 on not returnable! Drives me nuts when coach’s don’t coach #’s to sideline of coverage! The unblockable also means an investment in a snapper and a scheme to give help to the punter. If the ball takes 2 seconds to get there it doesn’t matter the punters ability!
@brendancahill_ Never at college level! Most likely not at HS level, but need to work with your athlete on how to have these discussions with adults in positions of power (teachers, boss, coaches). At youth level it can be ok, but remember to approach coach open to discussion
