I am beyond words about the commutation of Leonard Peltier. His release from prison signifies a measure of justice that has long evaded so many Native Americans for so many decades. I am grateful that Leonard can now go home to his family. I applaud President Biden for this action and understanding what this means to Indian Country. https://t.co/wzM5a2ZOGV
BREAKING: President Biden has commuted the life sentence of Indigenous political prisoner Leonard Peltier, allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence on house arrest. Despite pleas from supporters, the White House refused to issue a full pardon.
On the same day the Archdiocese of Los Angeles agreed to pay $880 million to victims of clergy sexual abuse, a leader of the Catholic Church is yukking it up with a man who was ordered to pay $83.3 million in a sexual assault case. Not a great look.
“Let’s all celebrate @lily_gladstone! So proud to watch a fellow small town Montana artist grow in to such a force of talent, passion and grace. Native stories and storytellers are finally beginning to receive the recognition they deserve. Well done Lily and congrats to Blackfeet Nation and Indian Country everywhere. - JA
