CAFE standards have now been eliminated in the OBBB.
Trump’s bill eliminates penalties for automakers that fail to meet federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards. Previously, automakers that didn’t meet fuel economy targets had to either improve efficiency or buy credits (including ZEV credits from Tesla) to avoid stiff fines. Now, those penalties are reduced to $0, removing a major incentive to purchase credits.
Could someone please bring back the diesel Volkswagen? My 2006 Jetta gets 36 miles per gallon around town and 48 on the highway. My record miles per gallon has been 55.
Or at least an American automobile manufacturer make a decent diesel car.
