I once loved and admired this industry that has given me so much. But this is another reminder that these creatives do not belong on pedestals or in politics. They are artists and nothing more

This brouhaha over @TIFF_NET refusing to show a film about the heroic rescue by Ret. General Noam Tibon of his family on Oct 7 boils down to this:

TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey is requiring a letter from an insurer confirming that the film producer has copyright to screen footage taken by Hamas on Oct 7 of their murder spree in Israel.

Hamas very proudly live-streamed their slaughter and also uploaded video to Telegram in real time. I’m pretty sure the terrorist thugs were not focused on copyright law then or at any time since. And of course, there’s the public domain issue.

So. In other words. Cameron Bailey….and his Board of Directors….including former Toronto mayor John Tory…..is pretending that he is concerned that Hamas will sue TIFF for breach of copyright.

I don’t know which Bay Street firm acts as TIFF’s legal counsel but I think that the free world would benefit from a statement confirming that TIFF is taking this position. If I have misunderstood then a clarification would be appreciated.

Silver lining. Utd would have been dreadful in the champions league, further weakening our mental strength & seen yet another forgetful league season.
Now have more time to recover in the week, learn how to play this new system, and don’t have to paper over cracks with a trophy
