The sacred Season of Advent invites us to grow in holiness so that we may become saintly. St. Francis Xavier offers us this reminder: “It is impossible to find a saint who did not take the two “P’s” seriously: Prayer and Penance. Make both a part of your life today.

On our earthly journey, unexpected sufferings and “storms”will come our way. Jesus promises we will be able to sustain them if we build our lives on a strong foundation consisting of: daily prayer, faithfulness to God’s commands, and trust in his promise to be with us always.

With seven loaves of bread and a few fish, Jesus fed the multitude. Never doubt how the Lord will use miraculously the gifts, sacrifices, and efforts you offer him to satisfy the needs of his people. There is nothing “too little” if presented to the Lord in faith.

Today, many begin shopping for Christmas gifts. Remember, the best gifts we can give to those we love are forgiveness, compassion, mutual respect, and our time and attention. There is nothing wrong with shopping —-as long as we remember the gifts that truly matter!

“It is right to give him thanks and praise!” On this Thanksgiving Day, may we be mindful of the Lord’s blessings in our midst each day, and express our gratitude in prayer, by our faithful witness, and through our generous outreach to those in most need. Happy Thanksgiving!

St. Columban teaches us a beautiful prayer in which we call upon the Lord for daily help: “Grant thoughtfulness, grant love, grant purity, grant faith; give me all that you know will help my soul. Lord, work good in me and provide me with what you know I need. Amen.”

St. Cecilia is the patron of musicians. We express thanks to all those who share their musical talents in service to the Church and our liturgies. May all of us sing within our hearts today “songs of joy” to the Lord, ever aware of his goodness and abundant blessings.

On the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, we are called to make sure that it is he and his Gospel that reign in our hearts and lives - not sin and the empty promises of the world. Then, we will know the joy of living in his Kingdom both now and forever.

Jesus says his temple is a “house of prayer.” Can you say that about your home? Do you pray as a married couple and with your children? Do you pray a family rosary? Do you say grace before meals? Your home will be filled with peace if it is a “house of prayer.”

We celebrate the Dedication of the Churches of Peter and Paul. Peter denied Christ and Paul persecuted Christians. Yet, with the Lord’s grace, they experienced conversion and were chosen to be his Apostles. Jesus never gives up on us. It is never too late to be transformed!

Your talents and abilities are gifts from a loving and generous God. Thus, on the day he calls you to himself, he will ask you to give an account of how you used these gifts to serve and help others. Who will be the beneficiaries today of your God-given talents and abilities?
