don juan’s reckless daughter is so much fun and v beautiful. jaco on bass literally conversing with joni, just masterclass stuff. i will not be discussing the cover
worst part is that i genuinely think Aster becomes a better filmmaker with every movie, but a worse writer. would love to see his sense of humor and technical chops paired with a much sharper script
initial thought on EDDINGTON was “this is the stupidest fucking movie ever made” but some distance has me a little softer on it, even if i’m still not particularly enthused by it. it’s definitely better than BEAU IS AFRAID, which i mostly found interminable after the first hour
unfortunately i think i’d have to see it again to really have a concrete opinion. it definitely provokes thoughts (not all of them flattering) but it also seems so insistent that those thoughts might be meaningless that i can’t be certain.
it’s great when i want to listen to an album i downloaded on spotify but i can’t load the album i downloaded on spotify because i don’t have service even though i downloaded the album on spotify to listen to when i don’t have service
not interested in dogpiling further on this guy because at least he’s thinking critically in a way, but also i can’t imagine seeing the scene where several young boys play with sawblades unsupervised and come out unscathed and think this doesn’t have enough to say about America
I haven't revisited "Boyhood" in awhile but its actually very funny how completely detached it is from anything that has happened in America for two decades it covers. I do not read this as a reflection of American reality but rather an obtuse denial of it.
the posturing that occurs with the cultural embrace of pop-art is so strange. lashing out at the curious is loser shit. like 80% of the time the prententious movie is like, persona, a highly popular & acclaimed film, so it all falls apart anyway
