OTD 1999: A Moonlight Graham moment.
Pitcher Rick Greene helped lead LSU to the 1991 College World Series title. He was drafted 16th overall by the Tigers in the 1992.

In the 1998 offseason, he signed with the #Reds as a minor league free agent, on the recommendation of Dave Miley. He made his MLB debut with the Reds on this date.

Called up as a fresh arm for the bullpen, he came on in the 1st inning after Ron Villone had allowed six runs, retiring just a batter. Greene surrendered a homer to the first batter he faced, Jose Valentin. But he gave the Reds a bullpen saving 5.2 innings, throwing 95 pitches, allowing three runs. He had been the closer at Triple-A that season.

Joe Nuxhall interviewed him as the Star of the Game, afterwards, and presented him with a $50 gift card to Montgomery Inn.

It was the only MLB appearances for Greene.
