When companies and their leaders start *asking* for regulation it's because they believe compliance costs will stifle competition. Dario desperately wants open source LLMs banned in the US.
@EverymanSmith@scantierrr Started roughly 2008. Financial crisis ushered in zero interest rates. Private equity had to expand into standard consumer markets to chase returns. Instead of liquidating companies, they run them like the mob. Remove expenses, load up with debt, cash out investors, burn it down.
This is not an organic thing. Children are not embracing Christian conservatism, women are not rejecting academic and career aspirations in numbers that matter. This is billionaires trying to manifest reality by pushing weirdo influencers to the top of the heap.
@postoctobrist If this were true, why isn't he already doing it? If there is a market opportunity that large why isn't he filling it?
Why not start a management/holding company and spin up 8 new 20m channels?
I lost the first of 3 el cheapo Silicon Power 512GB NVMEs. No big deal, I expected it and I'll be doing a warranty RMA, but when looking up my receipt from 2 years ago - I bought this for $29. They are now $100 each. The world has gone insane.
Every time I see a story like this I have to wonder - do professors and teachers not understand that a very large portion of their students *don't want to be there*?
Getting a degree is a barrier to entry to the life they want to live, nothing more.
An MIT writing professor on his students using AI:
"I realized that for the first time as a writing professor, I had to deal with students producing words without work, which wasn’t quite plagiarism and wasn’t quite paying for someone else to do the job, but it felt like a kind of naive chicanery; a perversion of the contract between writer and reader."

It's so weird that these industrialized nations don't have a ton of people wanting to pop out kids to die in an inevitable climate collapse that we refuse to do anything to stop.
“We've stopped making babies. We've decided that being distracted by a dopamine hit around Candy Crush might be a good way to spend your time. Not if you're a full human," former Sen. Ben Sasse says in an extended interview. https://t.co/3lNk3yYBza
This is what you get with an entire state completely controlled by Democrats. 100% corruption and government acting in the interest of money & against the citizens.
There's no voting our way out of this.
No, Voting republican will not fix this.
Mind you it’s not age gating, it’s IDENTITY GATING. There is no such thing as “age verification” it’s ID verification. I think we need to stop using the term age verification bc it’s an industry term that obfuscates the reality of what’s happening.
