"Massive Commercial Building Explosion & 2nd Alarm Fire Reported in East Providence"
➡️ Emergency crews in East Providence responded to a severe incident involving a commercial building explosion & a subsequent 2nd alarm fire on April 8, 2026. The blast triggered a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) protocol as first responders arrived to heavy smoke & flames.
➡️ At least 2 medical helicopters were requested to the scene for transport of the critically injured. Local reports suggest at least 5 individuals sustained injuries during the initial blast, though the exact number of victims remains partially verified as secondary searches of the structure continue.
➡️ Firefighters from neighboring districts including Providence & Barrington are providing mutual aid to combat the blaze. The structural integrity of the facility is currently unverified due to the intensity of the heat & the force of the primary explosion which blew out several exterior walls.
➡️ One witness reported hearing a deafening roar followed by a shockwave that rattled windows over zero.5 miles away. Authorities have established a zero-entry zone around the perimeter to protect the public from potential secondary explosions involving pressurized tanks stored on the site.
