🥳 @suryapbhatt & colleagues developed diagnostic thresholds for Parameter D — a new airflow obstruction metric that quantifies the rate of rise of expiratory volume over time — to better identify lung disease, regardless of demographics. 👏 @UABPulmonary https://t.co/I6zwJZlZUZ
Please tell your students there is still time for consideration for our program. We are considering all applications but if you are at an institution with limited research opportunities- you are our priority!

I am happy to share that our study on predicting COPD exacerbations was published in The Lancet Digital Health. We demonstrate the added potential of commonly acquired inspiratory CT scans for predicting future hospitalizations.
Using 7 CT metrics, we show that women have smaller airway dimensions than men, even after accounting for diff in lung size and height = lower reserve against respiratory morbidity and mortality. https://t.co/WbqQjjOvNE #COPD @nih_nhlbi @ATSCPAssembly@sandeep_boddu@joereinhardt
Exacerbations of COPD are associated with progression of emphysema, new publication from our group https://t.co/3vUssWnxKC @sandeep_boddu@realmdransfield#COPDGene#COPD @nih_nhlbi
July 1 was my first day as President of @SigmaXiSociety Sigma Xi. We have organized the annual meeting IFoRE on November 3-6, 2022 in Alexandria, VA.
The subject is fantastic, the speakers phenomenal. Join us! You can register now! @NPeppas and the Program Committee.
We want to share our appreciation to all the scholars, speakers, panelists, sponsors and staff who made last week's Rising BME Scholars Regional Conference possible! We hope our scholars have built strong connections and learned about the many career opportunities available.
Share the word! The 2022 Computational Bioengineering Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is accepting applications until Feb. 1. $6K stipend & allowance for living expenses and travel. Apply here:

Just a reminder that there is an open tenure track position in our department. The review process will begin soon! Even if you aren’t doing lung research now, maybe your research can tie into the department’s strengths when you get here!
Hiring a tenure track faculty member in BME. It’s a broad search and a chance to interface with our world class lung imaging group! https://t.co/F3v31ipNlS
Announcing our newly awarded NSF REU in Computational Bioengineering @iowabme @UIowaEngr. Please RT. All applications welcome. Students from under represented STEM populations or institutions with limited research opportunities are encouraged to apply. https://t.co/H5TkUyDETB
