PAM welcomes the official opening of the 79th session of the United Nations @UN General Assembly, under the leadership of H.E. Philemon Yang, and looks forward to closely collaborating with him to address key international challenges. As part of this engagement, PAM will actively follow the first General Debate on September 24, reinforcing its ongoing efforts to promote diplomacy and regional stability.
PAM also expresses its profound gratitude to H.E. New research on compensation in investor-State disputes. Better defining compensation rules reinforces predictability and can reduce the risk of excessively large awards in #ISDS.

Reforming older international investment agreements remains slow, with about half of global foreign direct investment still governed by non-reformed treaties, increasing the risk of investor-State dispute settlement cases. https://t.co/HsJq5DBBCE
A recent report published by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development @ICMPD reveals that migration patterns in the Mediterranean region have experienced significant shifts in recent months. The report highlights a surge in irregular maritime arrivals to Europe, escalating humanitarian crises driven by conflicts, and the growing complexity of migration dynamics due to global and regional challenges. During its 18th Plenary Session, PAM introduced a Communication and Awareness Campaign against Trafficking in Persons and Migrant Smuggling, in partnership with the UNODC’s “Blue Heart Campaign.” This campaign emphasizes the grave impact these offenses have on vulnerable communities and promotes the development and execution of robust measures to address and eradicate such issues.

According to a recent report by the United Nations Environment Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) @UNEPMAPNews , the Mediterranean Sea, a vital natural resource rich in biodiversity, faces severe pollution challenges that threaten marine ecosystems and the well-being of millions of coastal inhabitants. As one of the most affected seas globally, the Mediterranean suffers significantly from marine litter, with plastics accounting for over 95% of this debris. Every year, approximately 570,000 tonnes of plastic waste enter the sea, equivalent to dumping 33,800 plastic bottles every minute, harming marine life and coastal economies. Additionally, chemical pollution from industrial discharges, agricultural runoff, and untreated wastewater introduces hazardous substances such as heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants into the marine food chain, posing serious risks to human health and biodiversity.
In response to these urgent challenges, PAM has partnered with UNEP/MAP @UNEP to launch a joint project aimed at protecting the Mediterranean Sea and its coastal areas. This collaborative effort has resulted in the publication of the "Parliamentarians' Guide to Protecting the Mediterranean Sea and Coast," which offers comprehensive recommendations for policymakers to enhance legislative frameworks and promote sustainable practices across the region. The project underscores the importance of implementing the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance the resilience of marine and coastal ecosystems.

The International Court of Justice has delivered a rebuke to the way Israel has waged war in Gaza—and to the conduct of Binyamin Netanyahu’s government. But it is unlikely to constrain Israel’s ability to keep fighting Hamas: https://t.co/LUIUGfISMJ

For Israel they are not, but for Hamas they are. How tragic you lack the moral judgment, courage and convictions to say the truth.
The UN is #NOTAMORALVOICE
UN Women is #NOTAMORALVOICE
UN chief Antonio Guterres is #NOTAMORALVOICE
The UN Human Rights Council is #NOTAMORALVOICE
We will no longer remain silent in the face of the UN's hypocrisy!
I instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to extend the visa of one of the organization's employees in Israel, and to deny the visa request of another employee.
The conduct of the UN since October 7th is a disgrace to the organization and the international community. This disgrace began with the Secretary-General who legitimized war crimes and crimes against humanity, continued with the Human Rights Commissioner who publishes unsubstantiated blood libels, and with UN Women, an organization that for two months ignored the acts of rape committed against Israeli women.
We will stop working with those who cooperate with the Hamas terrorist organization's propaganda.
