근 원가 절감을 위해 중국 창신메모리테크놀로지(CXMT)를 신규 공급망으로 검토하던 애플이 단가 추가 인하 요청 협상에 난항을 겪고 있는 것으로 파악된다. 역설적으로 중국산 저가 부품 우회로가 막히면서 범용 D램 출하 부담을 덜어낸 삼성전자와 SK하이닉스가 고대역폭메모리(HBM) 등 고부가 AI 메모리에 생산 라인을 집중하며 글로벌 메모리 단가 협상력(프라이싱 파워)을 완벽히 통제하게 된 시장 역학 관계가 만들어지는 모양새다.

◆ "삼성보다 비싸다" 애플 튕겨낸 CXMT… D램 시장 주도권의 역전

5일 반도체 업계에 따르면 애플은 최근 차기 아이폰 및 스마트기기 라인업의 제조원가 압박을 완화하기 위해 CXMT와 LPDDR5X 등 모바일 D램 공급 단가 협상을 진행했으나 단가 인하를 거절당한 것으로 파악된다. CXMT는 오히려 삼성전자나 SK하이닉스의 공급 가격과 비교해 더 높거나 유사한 수준의 단가를 고수한 것으로 알려졌다. 완제품 시장에서 막강한 바잉 파워를 자랑하던 애플이 부품 공급사의 배짱 가격 정책에 가로막힌 셈이다.

CXMT가 애플의 단가 인하 요구를 과감하게 거절할 수 있었던 배경에는 화웨이와 샤오미 등 중국 내 IT 공룡들의 대대적인 '물량 싹쓸이'가 자리 잡고 있다. 미국 정부의 대중국 반도체 제재가 지속되는 상황에서 중국 완제품 기업들이 내수 자립화를 위해 CXMT의 D램 물량을 고단가 장기 계약으로 사전 확보하면서 CXMT 입장에서는 굳이 까다로운 품질 검증과 가격 인하를 요구하는 애플에 굽히며 물량을 줄 이유가 사라졌다. 중국 내수 시장의 든든한 대기 수요가 CXMT에 강력한 가격 방어막을 제공하고 있다는 분석이다.

애플을 비롯한 글로벌 완제품 공룡들이 부품 단가를 깎기 위해 즐겨 쓰던 '중국산 저가 부품 교차 다변화' 전략은 범용 D램의 쇼티지 정국 속에서 무용지물이 됐다. 그동안 완제품 사업부들은 계열사나 기존 주요 공급사를 압박하기 위한 미끼 카드로 중국산 패널이나 메모리를 의도적으로 노출시키며 연간 단가 계약에서 주도권을 쥐어왔다. 그러나 메모리 시장 전체의 수급 불균형이 가속화되면서 주도권이 세트 업체에서 메모리 제조업체로 완전히 넘어가게 됐다는 해석이 나온다.

◆ '저가 우회로' 막힌 빅테크…범용 D램까지 불붙은 쇼티지

이 같은 현상은 상반기 내내 이어진 고대역폭메모리(HBM) 생산 전용 라인 증설로 인해 범용 D램(DDR5·LPDDR5X)의 절대적 생산 캐파(생산능력)가 급감한 데 따른 연쇄 반응으로 풀이된다. 차세대 AI 서버와 가속기 수요를 감당하기 위해 주요 메모리 업체들이 범용 D램 웨이퍼 투입량을 줄이고 HBM 패키징 공정에 집중하면서 범용 D램마저 가격이 급등하는 '멤플레이션' 현상이 고착화됐다. 결국 대안으로 여겨졌던 중국 메모리 업체들마저 제값을 요구하기 시작하면서 빅테크 기업들은 원가 절감의 우회로를 잃게 된 정국이다.

시장에서는 이번 비화가 삼성전자와 SK하이닉스 등 한국 반도체 공룡들에게 사상 최대의 실리적 반사이익을 가져다주는 선순환 구조로 이어지고 있다고 진단한다. CXMT가 중국 내수 중심의 범용 D램 물량을 대거 흡수해 주면서 한국 기업들은 저가 범용 물량을 소화해야 하는 출하 압박과 단가 하락 리스크에서 완전히 벗어났기 때문이다.

삼성전자와 SK하이닉스는 범용 D램의 공급 과잉 우려가 사라진 공간에 HBM4와 LPCAMM2 및 eSSD 등 초고부가 AI 메모리 라인업을 대대적으로 전진 배치하고 있다. 고부가 제품 중심의 체질 개선을 이뤄낸 삼성전자와 SK하이닉스는 하반기 글로벌 빅테크들과의 장기 단가 협상에서 독보적인 프라이싱 파워를 쥐게 됐다.
