Arguably the biggest urbanist win in recent Seattle history, accomplished against fierce and unrelenting NIMBY opposition from powerful entrenched interests invested in maintaining the status quo, and it happened with the support of a moderate CM and the determined backing of blue collar unions and largely minority-owned maker's businesses, while many of the city's self-proclaimed (educated white progressive) urbanists either stayed completely on the sidelines or covertly aligned themselves with the anti-housing forces.

@hannahkrieg What the city should be fixing is the permitting process. One restaurant owner said all of the money his landlord gave him to build out the space ended up going toward rent / admin costs because his construction permits took too long to get approved.

@hannahkrieg Rents have been flat or even dipped since Covid. Most restaurants are now paying percentage rents based off sales, as opposed to a flat rate. The issue is people aren’t dining out as much as they used to. If we want high wages, we have to be willing to pay high prices.
