@kristine_stone Schools in the province of New Brunswick, Canada: exams this week, graduation exercises next week, and just the teachers for three days the following week. Then I retire after 31 years in the classroom.
@TheDHTaylor There are many “teachable” moments. Our school did an exchange with Shoal Lake 40 last year so some students can say “my brother/sister was there!”
@TheDHTaylor We watched the ‘Cottagers and Indians’ documentary in English 9 yesterday (don’t tell CBC!). After the town hall meeting scene one of my students asked “What is white supremacy?” I hope I explained it adequately. I’m sure the Peskotomuhkati, Wolastoqiyik, and Nigerian kids
@TheDHTaylor I will ask them tomorrow. I just found out the Atlantic Repertory Company production of Cottagers and Indians is coming to our school (Sir James Dunn Academy) in October. Our Vice Principal just came to borrow the play from my classroom library.
@TheDHTaylor The grade ten class from my school is there on an exchange trip right now. The Shoal Lake 40 kids are coming to New Brunswick in a couple of weeks. I show the doc in Civics 10. I’d have shown them before they went if I had clued in.
