In situations where the ball is under pressure, the player should shift backward, creating a gap between themselves and the ball.
This movement should involve running backward while keeping an eye on the ball.

Coaching Point #4: After drawing in and approaching the ball, targeting the defender's blind spot is crucial as the ball moves forward.
To separate offense and defense as two unrelated parts in football is to ignore the continuity of the sport, as well as the game intelligence, awareness, and anticipation that’s required by elite level players.
There is no “offense” and “defense” in football. Rather, there is “in possession” and “out of possession”. Football is a fluid, continuous game. The transition between phases is uninterrupted. You must have both offensive principles and defensive principles in mind at all times.
This becomes apparent when you consider the concepts of “rest-defense” or “rest-attack.” The CBs of the team in possession who are behind the ball are in position to support the attack but also positioned and aware of the defensive priorities in case of a loss of possession.
