A few thoughts on Nolan’s Odyssey:

- the father/son dynamic (and what it means to grow up without a father—indeed, how our whole feminized society increasingly consists of boys, these days, not men)
- ⁠how an entire society may destroy itself by going against the fundamental beliefs it was built on (see the parallels with current-day Israel’s savagery in Gaza)
- ⁠and more generally speaking, how noble Troy (or any noble society) will often be defeated by an opponent (in this case: the Greeks) that is more brutal and dishonorable than them—indeed, by doing something (in this particular case) that the Trojans could never - precisely because of their virtuousness - have imagined / or even thought of.
- ⁠what it means to have immigrants and strangers in your home (in the absence of the King, as we experience in Europe today)
- ⁠the problem of monogamy and the seductions of a mistress while “forgetting” about your family/marriage/wife (Calypso)
- ⁠the very idea of civilization having commenced by deceit (i.e. instrumental reason, i.e. the central argument of Adorno’s Dialectic of the Enlightenment)
- ⁠the idea that perhaps we have to become exiles and “sail West” in the hope of a new civilization potentially rising again in the future
- ⁠the point of the “sea people” considered a threat and then penelope discovering it is _her own people_ and what they have become
- ⁠the tragic fate of the leader (Odysseus) who cannot save his men (or his people) because they won’t listen to him (all of us on the right experience this every day)
- ⁠the very point of Helen, by the way, being of a different race, something many people on the right felt undermined the story, to me in fact underlined that she didn’t really belong with Menelaos and that the whole plan of taking her from Troy was hubristic and ridiculous in the first place
- ⁠and finally I quite liked Athena to have mixed heritage, it seemed to imply that the world of the gods is beyond race and human distinction anyway.

And all of these are just a few of the many, many thoughts and feelings this wonderful movie inspired in me. Apart from simply being a magnificent retelling of the most important saga of my youth and school years. Bravo, and thank you, Christopher Nolan!

The UK government has jailed its own citizens for tweets but barely prosecuted anyone for the rape and torture of hundreds of thousands of innocent British girls. It has also, for decades, protected known pedophiles in its own ranks.

Now that same government conjured up a wave of charges against the Tate brothers. This is not law enforcement. This is a political hit ordered by a regime that fears two free men with a microphone more than it fears actual criminals walking its streets.

It would be unworthy for the U.S. to participate in this obvious sham.

This is absolutely heartbreaking 😢

An 82-year-old man, well-dressed and well-spoken, sitting on the streets of Düsseldorf begging for money just to survive. Divorced, struggling financially, and completely abandoned in the final chapter of his life.

This is Europe in 2026.

While politicians in Brussels roll out the red carpet for every newcomer — offering housing, food, healthcare, and financial support — our own elderly, the people who built this continent, are left to rot on the pavement.

No one seems to care. The elite don’t care. The media looks the other way.

We have endless money and compassion for outsiders, but not for the grandfathers and grandmothers who paid taxes their entire lives.

This is not compassion. This is betrayal.

Shame on a system that abandons its own people in their hour of greatest need.

Respect to this dignified old man for still holding his head high. He deserves so much better. Europe deserves better.
