I've heard web3 game studios say, "The quality bar is so low in web3 gaming, it'll be easy to crush the competition!"
That's the wrong mindset.
If you're building a web3 game, the competition isn't other web3 games, you have to be better than similar web2 games on PC & console.
In light of recent stories of ppl being hacked and losing NFTs, here's my #1 tip on wallet security:
- Get a hardware wallet
- ONLY use it for storage and transferring
- NEVER sign a transaction from it
Don't sell from it. Transfer to another wallet first.
Be safe, friends. 🤝
Gaming assets on the blockchain will be at the forefront of gaming regardless of what the media thinks.
First, we must remove the negative connotations associated with crypto & NFTs
This happened because of content creators at some of your favorite gaming orgs...🙃
Two paths for a web3 game:
1. Market to web3 players. Prove the brand. Then expand to web2.
2. Market to web2 AND web3 players. Have two entirely different marketing campaigns.
Most studios I know are doing #1. It's much safer. @koingamesio is doing #2 because we're insane. 😉
Gaming is the best use case for NFTs
It’s second to none in web3
Because gamers natively spend thousands of hours playing games with digital assets they currently do not own
A great game + nft ownership will hyperdrive web3 adoption.
Web2 people are disgusted by the grift & greed they see in web3.
What's funny is web3 builders & enthusiasts are equally disgusted by the same thing.
We can't remove 100% of the bad actors, but we can at least drown them out with excellent products built by ethical people. 🤝
IMO the best argument against any EVM improvements is that it's much harder to remove EVM features than to add them, and so a culture where ongoing "EVM improvements" are expected means EVM keeps complexifying.
Some EVM changes are good, but that's the tradeoff to weigh against.
Most web3 games have poor messaging
If games can convey their message eloquently, they greatly improve their chances of reaching target audiences
Here are actionable steps to fix your messaging…🧵👇🏾
If you have a game that's fun to watch and you don't have a built-in way to share the best moments or matches on social media, that's a huge missed opportunity.
I ended Twitter in November with 5.1+ million views for the month. All of it was web3 gaming content. That does not include other channels. If web3 games hit mass market I expect creators will hit 5.1m per month like it’s normal.
