Imagine following nearly 13 million real people for more than 10 years just to see what cholesterol level helps them live the longest. That is exactly what Korean scientists did in a giant 2019 study. They tracked 12.8 million adults who had check-ups between 2001 and 2004, and they kept watching until 2013. More than 694,000 people died during that long stretch.
The results were clear and surprising. Cholesterol and death formed a U-shape. Very low cholesterol was linked to higher death rates. So was very high cholesterol. The sweet spot for the longest life was 210 to 249 mg/dL for most adults. That is higher than many doctors call “ideal.” Younger people had a slightly lower best range, but still not the super-low numbers often pushed today.
Because the study lasted so many years, reverse causality is less likely to explain the low-cholesterol danger. Reverse causality means a hidden illness might lower your cholesterol right before it kills you. With more than a decade of follow-up, early sickness cannot easily account for the extra deaths seen in people who started with low cholesterol. The pattern held across ages and for both men and women.
The huge number of people—almost the entire adult population of a country—makes the findings hard to ignore. Smaller studies can be wrong by chance. This one is massive. It shows that moderately higher total cholesterol, not the lowest possible number, went with the best chance of living longer in this large group.
In short, the biggest study of its kind found that cholesterol levels in the low-to-mid 200s were tied to the longest lives, and the long tracking time makes it tougher to blame the higher death rates at low levels on reverse causality alone.
"Terminator 2" hat's schon gezeigt, skynet und die selbst lernenden Maschinen rotten die Menscheit aus. Nur die Zeitreisen werden wohl kaum Realität. Düster.
Researchers built an analog chip that runs LLM attention 100x faster than an H100 and uses 70,000x less power.
It's called GainCellAttention.
Every AI chip you use is built on an 80-year-old flaw called the von Neumann architecture.
the processor and the memory are physically separated.
To generate a single word, a GPU has to shuttle massive amounts of data back and forth across this divide. Over and over again.
Moving that data costs up to 10,000x more energy than actually doing the math.
But a team of researchers published a paper in Nature that completely destroys this bottleneck.
They built an analog in-memory computing architecture.
Instead of moving data from the memory to the processor, they put the processor inside the memory.
Using emerging hardware called "gain cells," the AI performs its most expensive calculation, the attention mechanism, directly inside the storage arrays.
The data never moves.
The compute happens exactly where the memory lives.
The result? A massive leap in energy efficiency and speed. It completely eliminates the latency of fetching data for every single token.
It is building AI chips that function exactly like the human brainwhere memory and computation are the exact same thing.
eating butter to improve your brain function and reduce inflammation sounds like the exact opposite of everything the nutrition industry taught for 50 years. until you read the research on butyrate, the short chain fatty acid named after butter, that heals the gut lining, feeds brain cells, and reduces systemic inflammation more effectively than most supplements designed to do exactly those things
the nutrition industry spent 50 years telling you butter causes heart disease. this was based on the lipid hypothesis from the 1960s which has since been challenged by multiple meta analyses including a 2014 study in the Annals of Internal Medicine that found "no significant evidence" that saturated fat increases cardiovascular risk. the demonization of butter created a $40 billion margarine industry. the science that justified it is collapsing
the mechanism is butyrate. grass fed butter contains butyric acid which converts to butyrate in the gut. butyrate is the primary fuel source for colonocytes (the cells lining your colon). it repairs the gut barrier, reduces intestinal inflammation, and modulates the immune system through HDAC inhibition (the same mechanism that several cancer drugs target). the fat that doctors told you to avoid contains the compound that heals the tissue they prescribe medication for
• butyrate is the preferred fuel source for the cells lining the colon. without it those cells starve and the gut barrier degrades. "leaky gut" is partially a butyrate deficiency
• grass fed butter contains 500% more CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) than grain fed. CLA reduces body fat, improves insulin sensitivity, and has documented anti cancer properties in laboratory studies
• contains vitamin K2 in the MK4 form that directs calcium away from arteries and into bones. the same vitamin K2 that prevents the arterial calcification the medical community blamed on butter in the first place
• provides retinol (true vitamin A) in the most bioavailable food form. the butter that doctors told you causes disease contains the vitamin that prevents it
• the Tokelau islanders consumed 63% of their calories from saturated fat (primarily coconut) and had virtually zero cardiovascular disease until they adopted a Western diet. the saturated fat wasn't the variable. the processed food was
• grass fed butter from pasture raised cows contains a completely different fatty acid profile than grain fed. comparing the two is like comparing wild salmon to farmed tilapia. same name. different food
the margarine industry needed butter to be the villain. the vegetable oil industry needed saturated fat to be dangerous. the pharmaceutical industry needed cholesterol to be the enemy. three industries worth a combined $100 billion required one narrative: butter is bad. the narrative is worth more than the science behind it
2 to 3 tablespoons of grass fed butter daily (kerrygold is the most widely available reliable brand). cook with it. put it in coffee. spread it on bread without guilt. $5 for a block that lasts 2 weeks
the food your great grandparents ate every morning and lived to 85 on was demonized by three industries that needed you to buy their replacement products instead. the replacement products made you sick. the butter was fine. it was always fine.
@PhilippKutter Lieber Herr Kutter, so sehr ich Mitgefühl für Ihr Anliegen habe, so sehr führen leider die Anliegen für 99% der Menschen zu enorm hohen Kosten. Leider. Bsp. Behinderten WC in jeder S-Bahn. Bitte mit Augenmass.
At 50 they will help you with a cholesterol test you did not ask for, on a morning you felt fine.
At 51 they will help you with a statin, which shuts the pathway that makes your hormones, your CoQ10 and your vitamin D.
At 52 they will help you with a diet sheet: lean, low fat, wholegrain, and a limit on eggs, liver and red meat, the three densest foods on the planet.
At 55 they will help you with advice to go gentle. A walk, a swim, light weights, nothing that strains. Muscle is leaving at 1% a year and you have just been told not to argue with it.
At 58 they will help you with an acid blocker, which stops you absorbing the B12 and iron from the meat you were told to cut anyway.
At 60 they will help you with a vitamin D tablet, having spent 10 years telling you to stay out of the sun.
At 62 they will help you with a blood pressure pill, and a second one for the ankles the first one swelled.
At 65 they will help you with a bone scan and a tablet for the bones, having steered you off the loading that builds them and the fat that carries the calcium in.
At 68 they will help you with an antidepressant, because tired, cold, foggy and weak has been filed under mood.
At 70 they will help you with a chair that rises, a rail on the stairs, and a ready meal on a tray: low salt, low fat, high starch.
At 75 they will help you with a key safe and a woman who comes at 8 for 15 minutes.
At 80 they will help you with a bed downstairs and a room that starts at £1,200 a week.
At 84 they will help you with the house. It is sold to pay for the room.
34 years of help, and not one prescription for the thing that would have prevented the next one.
The perfect product walks in at 50 on his own legs, is kept just alive for three decades, and pays for every step of the descent with the muscle, the hormones, the bones, the pension and finally the roof.
They will help you all the way down. It is the only direction they are paid for.
@PhilippKutter Damit ist die Initiative der 'Mitte' im Aargau gemeint, die SNB Gewinne direkt an Bürger auszahlen will. Hat die 'Mitte' keine nationale Linie?
