The Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism today met with the Kenya Wildlife Service on a matter of national and public concern regarding the implementation of new park fees and other charges and the Committee resolved to meet KWS after their Court hearing on 25th November, 2025 whilst giving them time to regularise their new regulations in the Senate.

Through the Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation, we partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in flagging off the distribution of over 20,000 hass avocado seedlings across Bomachoge Borabu and Bomachoge Chache Constituencies.

This is a coordinated effort to reimagine increased food production by increasing access to avocado seedlings by smallholder farmers who with more production will enable the strengthening of avocado value chain and enhanced food security.

Kenya has firmly established its position as an avocado powerhouse, producing approximately 115,000 metric tons of avocado annually with 70 % of the avocado produce driven by small scale farmers. The access of seedlings by small scale farmers will ensure plant diversity in Kisii,enable farmers tap into the lucrative export market boosting their income and contributing to the country's economic growth.

Additionally, the global appetite for avocado is immense and that necessitates the empowering of farmers to produce more avocados.We encourage farmers to embrace avocado farming and especially hass avocado since it is resistant to the vagaries of weather, it fetches good prices in the international market and it supports the Kenyan economy which is majorly driven by the global demand.With more avocados, it will definitely mean more employment opportunities ,more export earnings and a booming economy.

Present were the Deputy County Commissioners of Kenyenya and Gucha, Assistant County Commissioners of Magenche, Magena, Kenyenya and Ibencho Divisions. Also present were chiefs and assistant chiefs drawn from different administrative units in Bomachoge Chache and Bomachoge Borabu Constituencies.
