MONTGOMERY, AL — TikTok has agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing the platform of addicting children, promising Alabama officials that teenagers will henceforth be limited to a safe, healthy two hours of crippling social-media addiction per day.

“We take teen wellness extremely seriously,” said a TikTok spokesperson. “That’s why we’ve worked closely with experts to establish the recommended daily dosage of Chinese short-form video at just 120 minutes.” Under the agreement, teenage users will also receive “productive pauses” after periods of continuous scrolling, allowing them several seconds to remember where they are.

Health officials praised the breakthrough. “Previously, teenagers could spend six consecutive hours watching lip-sync videos, skincare routines, political misinformation, people opening packages, and girls explaining why having a boyfriend gives them the ick,” said one expert. “Now they’ll have to spread that brain damage throughout the day.”

TikTok reportedly tested stricter limits but abandoned them after researchers discovered teenagers exposed to fewer than two hours per day occasionally began reading books and speaking to their parents. Alabama schools are preparing students for the transition by offering emergency courses in eye contact, sustained attention, and watching videos longer than 45 seconds.

TikTok also agreed to pay Alabama at least $100 million, which company officials estimated could be recovered by showing teenagers approximately seven additional Temu ads per day.

At press time, Alabama teens were relieved to learn that after reaching their two-hour TikTok limit, they could safely spend the remaining 22 hours on Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube.
