In November 2022, Waikato GP Dr David Smylie received a dinner invitation from a sales rep that opened “Ate Marie Everyone”. Late that night, he fired back a four-sentence private reply, joking about the typo and grumbling about the amount of te reo in her email. You might not agree with what Dr Smylie said, but it wasn’t sent to a colleague or a patient.

Her manager complained to the Medical Council. Within days, Dr Smylie had written an apology. The Council never passed it on, at one point claiming it would “interfere with an active investigation”. When the rep was later interviewed and the committee chair floated a meeting with him, another member warned her off: “it’s tough calling out racism.”

The Professional Conduct Committee found his comments “objectively racist, offensive, and insensitive”. Whether he meant any harm was “of little consequence”. His four sentences had “the potential to contribute to current health inequities”.

The penalty was a year of what the Council called an “Educational Programme”: monthly sessions with a supervisor who reported back on him, readings on colonisation and institutional racism, and strategies for managing his “implicit biases (which are inevitable)”. He was expected to pay for it, at $125 an hour plus GST. To finish, he had to write two essays, including 1,000 words on structural racism in New Zealand health care.
In almost 40 years of practice, nobody had complained about his care. The committee’s ruling noted he had “not yet” received a complaint.

He sat through all twelve sessions and refused to write the essays, on a matter of principle. Dr Smylie now practises overseas.

Health NZ is short of doctors and recruiting from abroad. The Medical Council has driven one out over a private email.

Late that night, he fired back a four-sentence private reply, joking about the typo and grumbling about the amount of te reo in her email. You might not agree with what Dr Smylie said, but it wasn’t sent to a colleague or a patient, and was remarkably minor.

Education Review Office warns Christian Principal for questioning the labelling of conservative students as extremists, and for supporting the Government's proposed changes to Treaty obligations in education.

The Principal of Manukau Christian School has written about an experience he had with the Education Review Office during its review of the school. During the review process, he received a phone call from someone at ERO raising concerns about two articles he'd written, one questioning the labelling of conservative students as extremists, and the other supporting the Government's proposed changes to Treaty obligations in education. He was warned that he could be putting his professional registration at risk if someone complained to the Teaching Council. The experience raised some serious concerns for him about viewpoint discrimination and the freedom of conservative Christian educators to express their views publicly without fear of professional consequences.

In Downing Street yesterday, Andy Burnham and Angela Rayner met Muslim community leaders around the Cabinet table.

The Prime Minister used the opportunity to take a cheap pot-shot at his political rivals, accusing them of using “unacceptable language” about Islam.

This isn’t the first time Labour politicians have accused their rivals of being “Islamophobic” or sought to police speech about Islam.

Another revelation from the meeting is that Angela Rayner is reportedly set to announce the appointment of an “anti-Muslim hostility” tsar this week.

Rayner appointed five people to a working group tasked with drafting the definition. All had troubling links to Islamist organisations, including the Muslim Council of Britain and MEND.

The Communities Department, which Rayner leads, also said it had deleted all responses to the working group’s consultation — responses that were vital to drafting the definition.

After pressure from Nick Timothy and the threat of legal action from the Free Speech Union, the ministry announced that it did have the responses after all, but would not show them to us.

This has only fuelled speculation that the Government allowed extremists to influence what is now Britain’s de facto Islamic blasphemy law.

Who on earth is she going to appoint as the new Islamophobia tsar?

@kaiviti_cam We need to invest in drone manufacturing infrastructure and resilient supply chains, not pour billions into a massive warship that could be sunk the moment it enters hostile waters.

[Duckster @John_Duckster]

This was inevitable.

For years, leftist activists pushed to ban and demonetise the right. Then an autistic South African bought Twitter and restored free speech.

Now the UK wants ID, banking & facial checks.

Same Orwellian impulse, new tactic.

Control who gets to speak.

🚨 NEW: Ofcom says all adults should have to use their ID to access social media.

• Ofcom has recommended four methods for verifying users’ ages ahead of the UK’s ban on social media for under-16s, which is due to come into force in March next year.

• The four methods suggested, subject to government approval, are photo ID matching, banking-based checks, live facial age estimation and digital ID.

• The regulator noted that verifying the ages of 16 and 17-year-olds is challenging because many do not have credit cards, full driving licences or passports.

• Ofcom chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes said the ban can work if firms carry out highly effective age checks, and that the regulator will take action against companies that fail to comply.

[Duckster @John_Duckster]

UK is heading for serious civil unrest.

Requiring ID, banking info or facial scans is Orwellian.

Remember when Canada froze Freedom Convoy bank accounts?

What happens when you criticise the government or its protected groups?

[Politics UK @PolitlcsUK]

🚨 NEW: The age-check methods for Brits to access social media from March have been announced

1. Photo ID matching (passport against a live photo)

2. Banking checks

3. Digital ID services

4. Facial age estimation (additional check if needed)

I think if we’re all being honest with ourselves there is no future outcome with these people that doesn’t end in prison or violence. Dialogue is dead. If we want to avoid violence then these terrorists need to be put in asylums or prison.

Yesterday, the Australian Institute of Criminology published its annual report, which includes information about staff. The Institute has 25 ongoing employees: 4 male and 21 female (84% female).

[Nemo @_preposterously]

I can’t stop thinking about this.

There’s an almost sadistic aspect to what the Medical Council has done here. It’s not just censure, but a kind of ritual humiliation — making the transgressor kiss the rod and beg for his career and write contrite essays like a little schoolboy.

[Confirmed Miscer ⚔️🍁🔫 @ManDaveJobGood]

Every single leftist family member and friend of yours is like this now. If you were killed for your politics they'd celebrate or at least excuse it

You can't post about how we need to crush the left and then grit your teeth while your leftist friend makes these jokes anymore

[Dave Greene @GreeneMan6]

You can see how the aesthetics of debate give the left wingers the advantage post Charlie.

They walk up and say:
“We killed you and we will kill you again?”

And then what’s the response?

A joke? That seems weak.
A prayer? That looks like cope.
Answer the threat with a threat? You just got TPUSA ejected from campus permanently

The assassination of Kirk let the left show its power, and they are reveling in it.

[Chris Pook @drchrispook]

This is a key observation which the political "left" fail to grasp. The culture & beliefs they have pushed for the last 10-15 years has undermined public trust in science and academia more broadly. The rest of the populace recognise this & reject politicians pushing that.

But how do they stack up against Judith?

They're not ugly. They're above average in looks, amplified by the saintly veil of kindness and a photogenic smile.

Notice the sex differences

Democrats prioritise equality, fairness and kindness, mirroring female typical Agreeableness, Compassion and care morality.

Republicans prioritise patriotism, responsibility and honesty, mirroring male typical Assertiveness, loyalty, & authority

[Tom Bevan @TomBevanRCP]

New Gallup poll asks "which values the country most needs today?"

Out of a list of 12 values, Republicans put "patriotism" #1, for Dems it ranks dead last - by a lot.

Dems say "equality" is most needed, Republicans rank it 11th out of 12.

[Duckster @John_Duckster]

@chrislynchmedia I don't understand why the current government hasn't removed taxpayer funding. No restructure. Not even regulation.

They had three years to do something about the main propaganda arm of the left, and did nothing.
