@GoldieStandard Seems like Wells trustees handled that pretty poorly. They had economic trouble for years but abruptly closed at a time when students and faculty (and the town) were really behind the 8 ball instead of giving people enough time to adequately plan for the closure.
@taylor_odle The other side of this is that college president's think everyone knows about discounting. I found this a few years ago when I did a survey for @chronicle with presidents. They had no idea the high sticker price was a barrier. But tuition is often the first thing people look at
@jaketapper Research tells us that what is most important about college is what you do when you are there, not so much where you go. Also students going to their 2nd, 3rd, etc choice college are just as satisfied as the 1st choice attendees IF they get involved in their college experience
@EricStoller @insidehighered I always find these comparisons interesting as they try to portray a shocking mismatch. But is it? What is often overlooked is the employer's experience with graduates. Is the rating based on immediate supervision of a recent graduate? Or just an article they read?
@jrkeup@insidehighered Good piece with good points. Faculty are not trained to do this and we need to be more effective at communicating to students about the proper resources that are there for them. Similarly with career services. We offer so much in that area and it is not used.
@jrkeup It was a wake up call doing some cognitive interviewing around sense of community questions on a survey with an urban serving institution. Students: "what community do you mean?" So many interlocking different communities. We had to rephrase.
