🟥 Hughes Has Lost the Plot - He Should Be On Gardening Leave
Richard Hughes has reached desperation stakes.
I’ve got no issue with Yankuba Minteh as a player. He’s talented, quick, direct and, as a squad option, there is plenty to like. But nine goals and eight assists in 66 Premier League appearances is hardly a record that should have Liverpool losing their heads.
And now he’s injured. Surgery, another eight weeks out, Liverpool apparently bidding £50m anyway.
What on earth are we doing?
If Minteh was genuinely the man, why was this not dealt with in June? Why wait all summer? Why wait until the lad is unavailable? Why make an offer Brighton were always likely to reject?
I would love to believe this is some clever attempt to flush PSG out over Bradley Barcola or Ibrahim Mbaye. I really would. I simply do not have enough faith in Hughes to believe there is that level of cunning behind it.
This reeks of a plan collapsing and somebody scrambling for the next name on the list.
Hughes should be on gardening leave, waiting for his first Saudi pay cheque, nowhere near decisions that could shape Liverpool for years.
FSG allowing an outgoing sporting director to preside over a window this important is gross negligence.
And perhaps one day, amid all the breathless updates about bids, shortlists and “interest”, a few more people with the loudest platforms might ask who is actually responsible for this mess.
Liverpool have the money. They have a new manager who needs backing. They have known their weaknesses for months.
There are no excuses left.

Farewell to one of England’s greats in Kevin Keegan 🏴
Clip from 1979 when Mrs Thatcher invited him to take part in a Euro rally while playing for Hamburg.
He refused - arguing that his dad, a miner - would kill him. He said he would have done it for Jim Callaghan though…
Everton’s Jordan Pickford laughed at Mac Allister when he saved his header, because he plays for Liverpool.
Mac Allister has the last laugh as he’s going to the final while Pickford is crying.
Karma. 😂
Cape Verde centre back Roberto 'Pico' Lopes has spent his entire career in Ireland, ignored a LinkedIn message from Cape Verde FA asking him to play for them because it was in Portuguese. A year later, they sent it in English. He accepted. An all-time great World Cup story.
