Health financing reforms on track for universal health coverage

Tanzania 🇹🇿 is making progress towards Universal Health Coverage with successful health financing reforms, reveals a recent study led by scientists @Ifakarahealth and @LSHTM with contributions from Dr. Ntuli Kapologwe director of Health Services, #PORALG

📊 The study highlights the alignment of key programs – Results-Based Financing (RBF) & Direct Health Facility Financing (DHFF) – with Strategic Health Purchasing principles implemented in Tanzania. ⚖️ This paves the way for equitable resource distribution, increased efficiency, and enhanced transparency in #healthcare

🏥 While both RBF and DHFF-HBF initiatives showed potential, differences in autonomy and budget constraints were observed. The researchers recommend additional efforts to strengthen the health financing reforms.

POLICY:
Scientists for inclusive decision-making in health financing 🏥

🔍A recent study led by Dr. Peter Binyaruka (@peter_binyaruka), a research scientist @ifakarahealth has underlined public participation in policy design and reforms to ensure equitable and effective health systems while also strengthening public trust. 🤝🌟

📚This study examined the decision-making process of the development of the improved Community Health Fund (iCHF) in 2017/18, aimed at making short-term improvements in coverage, especially for the informal sector.

The iCHF reforms, despite their swift development, demonstrated some positive aspects, however, they also showed a lack of transparency, public participation, and oversight in the decision-making process, raising concerns.🚩
