Thank you, San Francisco! Tonight, the voters sent a clear message: they’re ready for a new vision on housing affordability, ICE accountability, smart guardrails on AI, single payer healthcare, and affordable clean energy. Even more than that, San Franciscans are ready for results. This campaign is powered by people who believe deeply that government can make a real difference in people’s lives, and that’s what I’ll deliver in Washington.
San Franciscans understands that in the face of rising authoritarianism, we can’t return to the pre-Trump status quo. In Congress, I’ll do what I’ve done throughout my time in public leadership: stick my neck out for bold ideas that make people’s lives better and more affordable. I’ll go to the mat to defend immigrants and trans people, to deliver real results on housing affordability, and to restore government’s ability to deliver on its promises.
@mnolangray This is great! I used to live nearby. I'm very skeptical it will pass though, Davis is very NIMBY and students are mostly registered at their parent's house or unable to vote in the city because they live outside city limits on campus or university built apartments
What a joy it's been to find our collective awe in something as a nation. It's a reminder that these missions not only have scientific value, but a civic, almost spiritual value.
They remind us of who we are. A few reflections that I hope are worth your time. 🧵🧵🧵

This is not a drill. Absent stable long-term funding, Caltrain, like BART, will crater & potentially shut down entirely. Muni will reduce service by as much as 50%.
We can avoid this disaster for the Bay Area by passing two funding measures on the ballot in November: a regional measure I legislated last year & a companion measure in San Francisco sponsored by the Mayor.
The Bay Area runs on transit. Without it, we’ll see escalating gridlocked traffic, people not being able to get where they’re going & way more pollution. We must not let that happen.
This law is absolutely vile. It’s specifically designed to protect violent settlers who terrorize Palestinian communities in the West Bank.
The messianic extremists running the Israeli government — in addition to doing extreme harm to Palestinians — are doing more harm to Israel & Jews globally than Hamas could ever do. It’s a rot that must be excised.
In a move that should shock exactly no one, the party that took a wrecking ball to health care to pay for tax cuts for rich people is now proposing to cut health care to pay for the Iran war & ICE.
Literally the hardest no ever. https://t.co/uQJuCwS8fc
The world does not conform to your simplified models of it. The world is incredibly detailed, granular, diverse. You can’t even fit ONE other person into your little cramped attic of a mind. Not even one other person. Yet you dare imagine you can constrain 8 billion in there.
instead of introducing 50 year mortgages, how about we just build more housing in the places people want to live — and find ways to make that housing more affordable, such as, and for example, not deport people who build our housing or impose tariffs on building materials.
Today, I signed a package of bills to make housing in Baltimore more abundant and affordable.
These bills will help folks buy a home and grow wealth, counter decades of disinvestment, and make sure both long-time and new residents feel the benefits of Baltimore's Renaissance.
MAJOR NEWS: @GavinNewsom signed SB 79, my bill allowing more housing near public transit — rail, subway, rapid bus.
It’s a huge step for housing in California. It’ll create more homes, strengthen our transit systems & reduce traffic & carbon emissions.
Thank you, Governor!
BIG NEWS: The Legislature just passed our major CEQA reform & affordability legislation, SB 131:
SB 131 cuts down on unnecessary process — often having nothing to do with the environment — that makes it harder & more expensive to build housing, advanced manufacturing … 🧵
