@will__mcevoy Zcash proving is probabilistic.
Jesus Christ man someone needs to take away your X access.
Better the intern posts this slop than the CIO.
@EthosVentures Oh so it’s by design that shielded ZEC should be considered higher risk than transparent ZEC and one should not hold large amounts in it?
There's little tech explanation on this Zcash vulnerability, very serious stuff
A soundness bug in their zero-knowledge proof circuit + sloppiness in their elliptic curve point handling code essentially allowed unlimited forged shielded transactions
That's gotta spook vendors!

@EthosVentures Don’t know if you’re aware of the recent bug, here’s a basic breakdown of why vendors should be thoughtful about how much shielded ZEC they hold:
@0xz80@ImBrentJames@zooko@ebfull@mert Essentially it’s, bad person spends lots of fake ZEC in pool for goods and services.
Receives those goods and services.
Now you have 2, 5, 10, 100… N, people with the forged ZEC, the first one to withdraw gets t-ZEC they can move to an exchange and sell. Others are fucked.

@EthosVentures Anyone using ZEC for its intended purpose.
People using it as private cash, in exchange for goods and services.
They should be concerned.
See below, and note, none of this would help people defrauded by forged shielded transactions.
“Zcash’s turnstile mechanism … confirmed that the total supply remained intact throughout.” “There is no evidence of unauthorized value creation.” “No impact to the total ZEC supply has been detected.” (Zcash Foundation official blog + forum summary, June 2026) https://t.co/ZgaOWWl1NV https://t.co/MhlA2K4J62
“Successful exploitation could have allowed the Orchard pool to accept invalid state transitions, potentially permitting double-spending of funds within Orchard, though with no ability to inflate the total ZEC supply, which is protected by Zcash’s turnstile mechanism.” (Zcash Foundation) https://t.co/ZgaOWWl1NV
“Zcash’s turnstile mechanism, which tracks the total ZEC balance in each value pool (Sprout, Sapling, Orchard, transparent, and lockbox), and enforces invariants on how much value can flow between pools … protects the integrity of the 21M supply cap.” “It provided a ground truth that ecosystem participants could use to confirm the supply cap remained intact.” (Zcash Foundation) https://t.co/ZgaOWWl1NV https://t.co/MhlA2K4J62
@ImBrentJames@zooko@ebfull@mert Their response is largely paraphrased as “don’t worry shielded ZEC can’t be sold on exchanges and isn’t really used by vendors”.
