@grandslamcurl@blaing99@cullenoncurling@TaraSlone Its probably hard to define in the rules, but it should be added as a prohibited sweeping technique (though its very obvious when you see players do it). The slow directional knifing to slow down rocks is pretty stupid.
@curlercups Also, what are your thoughts on the slow knifing techniques? It seems to be an effort to slow the rock down significantly. When legal brooms were approved, it was in an effort to reduce the slowing and directional sweeping of rocks. Seems like a step backwards to me.
@curlercups Is there an advantage to hardline brushes over the previous heads from goldline/BP? Or is it even possible to know? Seems like brushing tests are not the most rigorous. Need more people in the curling science world haha.
@cullenoncurling Also, has anyone looked into how much more effective the current hardline pad is, in comparison to the previous version of the goldline and balance plus brooms?
@cullenoncurling Few questions:
1) Was any paper written for the first sweeping summit discussing the methods? I couldn't find it...
2) What methods were used for the Guelph "testing"?
3) Can you be more specific on your concerns with the people involved?
@Devin_Heroux Also, I find that the goal to “eliminate or significantly reduce the ability for a curling broom to have directional influence on a swept curling stone” to be at odds with teams efforts to alter directional sweeping techniques (i.e knifing, or long slow strokes).
@Devin_Heroux Are you able to get clarification on how much players think this foam is impacting curl? I understand that we need standards so that equipment doesn't provide unfair advantages, but it seems very anecdotal at the moment. Curling studies on sweeping are few and far between.
@emmamiskew I think you should lose the hammer if you blank in the first half of the game. Then last half you don't get penalized for blanking. Keeps some of the strategy while making the first ends more engaging.
@JoCourtney89 I disagree with the beer comments. Spares get paid in beer. In return they sweep a bunch and blame all the teams missed shots on ice conditions.
@Devin_Heroux@TeamMouat@Hammymcm@BruceMouat Canada has this issue as well. The fact that the Scotties were held during the Olympics, meant that Team Jones could not compete for Worlds. Surely this can be scheduled around, allowing teams to compete for the opportunity.
