There’s a hidden dagger in almost every PC game from 1995-2005 that murders ARM processors.
It’s kind of an accident, and it all has to do with floating points.
x87 was Intel’s floating point extension to x86. I won’t get into all the historical drama, but Intel decided that all internal float math would be at 80-bit extended precision to reduce rounding errors.
Of course, today no one in their right mind uses 80-bit; standard 64-bit doubles are just too convenient. Modern ARM64 doesn’t have any 80-bit hardware!
This creates a nasty problem for emulation. How much x87 arithmetic can you replace with say, native ARM64 floating point (losing precision!) without breaking behavior?
It’s not so simple; dropping 16-bits of precision can cause funny physics glitches and such. But boy, if you need all 80-bits, the software fallback REALLY stinks.
With all the decomp/recomp hype lately, porting OG Xbox and PC games to mobile / ARM devices is extra tricky. Not impossible, but you’d be amazed at how much x87 code is in old games!
I want to believe this. But they don't lack for IQ. From what I understand when the people have a problem they complain to the local rep. If enough complain (and tell each other?) he will lose next election. So little news comes out from inside China I have no idea if there is popular enmiseration.
Same thing with xinjiang: they treat the Muslims harshly but I mean haz you seen Islam's history? How can I fault them for treating islam like insanity? I fear we are too lax with islam.
@BoydsArchitect always a good idea! i'm still blown away that their manufacturers don't hire directly; they have to go to the ministry of labor to get employees. that and their onshore vs offshore currency? it's a very strange brew.
You don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy a great steak. 🥩
Some of the most flavorful cuts of beef are also the most affordable.

One other thing about the American Color Revolution.
I'm hearing a lot of very sober conservatives saying that there is no there there in the various videos from the @DataRepublican drops, and that these people are LARPers fantasizing about events that can never, ever happen in the USA.
I have two rebuttals to that sentiment:
1. These are serious people. Ex-USAID employees. Admirals and generals. Ex-State Department. Ex-CIA. Big donors. While some of them may look like goofy LARPers on Zoom, IRL they are serious, highly credentialed leftists with skills, education and experience that should not be taken lightly.
2. Underestimate these people at your own peril. "They could never pull this off in the USA!" Oh really? Exhibit A that they absolutely could pull something this extreme off is how they crippled the Trump 45 Presidency with a totally fake, totally fabricated "Trump/Russia Collusion" hoax, a hoax that started at the Oval Office of Mr. Community Organizer himself, Barack Obama.
Do not underestimate these plotters, please.
Thanks to Trump's tax cuts on investment, there are enormous write-offs to mining bitcoin.
