@BrigidWD Was trying to be but as you say it’s a constant work in progress. Will now read Seneca. Epictetus is clearly next-level (and sounds a bit bonkers)
Stole my daughters copy (thanks auntie Sally) and listened to it on Audible over Christmas, Bridgid. Absolutely fantastic distillation of the best philosophy for living. Have been boring everyone with its virtues. Now Resolved to practise stoicism in 2023.
Re-watching the excellent first series of “The Crown” - interested to learn that “Bagehot” - the key reference text on matters constitutional - is actually pronounced “batshit”
@frankcottrell_b We had several years of being ruled by neo-con nutcases here in Australia - a deeply unsettling experience, and such a relief to finally kick them out and be governed once again by politicians who at least meet the basic requirements of integrity, compassion and common sense.
Hi @AlboMP and @JEChalmers I’m a high earner and I’m doing fine but a lot of people aren’t. I’d be happy to forego tax cuts in favour of improved services in health, housing and education. Really, I don’t need the money and we’d all be better off without the cuts. #auspol

The combined profits of the largest energy companies in the first quarter of this year are close to $100 billion.
This grotesque greed of the fossil fuel industry and their financiers is punishing the poorest and most vulnerable people, while destroying our only home.
Yep, resentment is a powerful force and the strangest collection of highly privileged people seem to suffer from it - Putin, Murdoch, Trump, Steve Bannon, Mitch McConnell,
…It’s just hard to figure what they resent so deeply. The freedom of others to tread lightly in the world?
