But we need to look at the trends honestly and take public choice considerations seriously or we’ll get kaleidoscope policies. Home prices are an example, the political economy will not lower home prices, it will make it worse via rent capture

@connorpklocke @Econymous_1 @PhilWMagness If you find home prices a problem, why should we expect government to reduce home prices? The NAR and RPAC are among the largest lobbying groups. Voters that own homes don’t want lower prices and will vote. NIMBY politically wins. Political rents have been and will be captured.

@connorpklocke @PhilWMagness Liberalism is working out very well for us. 60 soon, health is great, and I’ll be rock climbing 🧗 all weekend. Kids are doing great, daughter has 2 degrees, wife has her masters, son doing well entering his Sr year. Avoid the news, avoid politics and life is quite good.

You must be kidding. AI might have big effects. It could have risks. So “policymakers,”  must "act now,” before they have any idea what they’re doing, to "build the incentives, guardrails, and institutions needed to steer AI in a direction that complements humans and benefits society?” Boy I’m glad no self-appointed “policy maker” decided to “steer” the development of the steam engine. The ones who “steered” nuclear power destroyed it. Preemptive dirigisme is killing tech in Europe. If said “policy makers” could do something about the dumpster fires of US social programs, building restrictions, appalling costs of public infrastructure, broken tax code, failing schools, maybe I’d think about "calling" to unleash them on some vague AI crusade. The reason the US spends more on healthcare than other countries is because we are richer and healthcare is a normal good. The reason we don't get as good health outcomes is largely because of murders, car accidents, and drug ODs (explains half of the gap or so)
