This story is a powerful and painful look at the moment Dakar’s African era effectively ended. The 30th edition of the Dakar Rally was scheduled to depart on January 5th from Lisbon, Portugal, to Dakar, Senegal, covering nearly 6000 kilometers with 8 of the 15 stages in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania
I also highlight Chris Blais and his 2007 podium at the Dakar Rally.

A doctor met a guy at a coffee shop, assessed him for MAID, then drove him to the spot where he'd be put down. Horrors beyond comprehension happening just to our north. There's a much better moral argument for invading Canada and deposing its regime than invading or bombing any country 10 thousand miles away. Industrial scale eugenics and mass murder happening right next door.
Friends, I enjoyed sitting down with @colmflynnire for another wide-ranging conversation. We discussed faith, politics, a variety of complex issues, and what’s next for Word on Fire.

Jesus AI just dropped. Or at least what it would look like if the Pope, instead of Elon Musk, had created Grok.
First American Pope Leo XIV’s groundbreaking encyclical Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity) calls for robust AI regulation to safeguard human dignity. It’s 42,000 words, the equivalent of a small book.
The Pope signed this AI document on the 135th anniversary of one of the church’s landmark encyclicals, “Rerum Novarum” by his earlier namesake, Pope Leo XIII. That was the Vatican’s ambitious effort to address workers’ rights and fair wages and the private property rights at the start of the Industrial Revolution.
Key warnings in today’s encyclical:
• AI threatens to reduce humans to “cogs” in efficiency machines.
• Tower of Babel 2.0 — tech is “not inherently evil” and must serve the common good, not private power.
• Rigorous ethical restraints on AI in warfare. It must be “disarmed” so it does not “dominate humanity” and “lower the moral threshold of conflict.”
As the author of the NY Times bestselling “God’s Bankers” I appreciate this historical moment for the Vatican trying to set some guardrails for AI and Silicon Valley.
However, from all my reporting, tech is likely to rush past the generalized safety suggestions set out in this massive encyclical.
When I asked Grok what it thought about the full encyclical, which I provided, it said “This is a serious, pastoral contribution worthy of study. It elevates the conversation beyond hype or doomerism to anthropology and ethics. Documents like this push us to do it responsibly. Worth reading in full—it’s not anti-technology; it’s pro-magnifica humanitas. Humans, with our messy grandeur, limits, and aspirations, remain the point.” Very optimistic from Musk’s AI creation.

blessed to meet @frmikeschmitz last night with my family and talk about my book on mental health The Revolutionary Ketamine. I immediately thought about Msgr Father Fulton Sheen show Life is Worth Living. Father Mike is gifted in his speech and how he connects to the younger generation. We need more of shows like Parables.
A study put elite athletes who burned almost no carbs on a treadmill. They recorded the highest fat-burning rate ever measured in a human.
The FASTER study. 2016. Published in Metabolism. Twenty of the best ultra-endurance athletes on earth. Ultramarathoners. Ironman triathletes. The kind of people whose careers depend on knowing exactly what fuel works.
They were split into two groups.
Ten ate the standard high-carb athlete diet. The diet every sports nutritionist still pushes. Eat the carbs. Load the carbs. You cannot perform without the carbs.
Ten had been low-carb and keto-adapted for an average of twenty months. Same elite level. Same competitions. No carbs.
Both groups ran three hours on a treadmill. Researchers measured exactly what fuel each body was burning, breath by breath.
Here is what they found.
The keto group burned fat at 2.3 times the rate of the carb group. Peak fat oxidation hit 1.5 grams per minute.
The textbooks said the human body maxes out near 0.7 grams per minute. The keto athletes doubled the supposed limit.
The highest fat-burning rate ever measured in a human, full stop.
Then the part that should have ended the carb-loading dogma forever.
The fear was that without carbs they would run out of muscle glycogen mid-race. They did not. Their glycogen use during the run and their refill afterward matched the carb athletes exactly.
They were running on their own fat at elite intensity. With glycogen behaving identically.
The body was never carb-dependent.
It was carb-trained.
You can train it differently.
Almost a decade later, every endurance handbook still tells athletes to load up on carbs. The data has been sitting there the whole time.
Attended @frmikeschmitz parables show in Fort Lauderdale. It was right up there with Jordan Peterson show in many ways. It was a delight to be a part of it. @colmflynnire was entertaining as well and put his Irish flare to it.
The Internet Built These Killers, by @geraldposner https://t.co/1z1jeiYtQ0
Every parent should read this article and thoroughly research the Discord app, which has become intertwined with so many facets of young people’s online activity; which is an average of 8 hours per day for many. From a psychological standpoint, Jordan Peterson and others teach that it can take roughly 2,000 hours of brooding over dark and negative thoughts for a young, impressionable mind to become capable of carrying out such an atrocity. Ultimately, the solution comes down to cultivating non-violence in whatever way works for each individual. Thank you, Gerald.

Remember when schools started handing out “participation trophies” so no kid felt bad?
That was bad.
This is worse.
California’s governing body for high school competitions now gives **duplicate gold medals** to girls who finish behind male athletes who compete in all female events.
This weekend after a male athlete dominated the girls’ high jump, long jump & triple jump — officials required co-champion podiums and extra golds for the girls right behind.
This is NOT a fix for the problem of men in female only sports. It is a fake “solution” that erases fair competition and tells girls their effort only merits a consolation prize.

Boom! Scientists Discovered a Hidden Superhighway Inside You That Might Finally Explain Why Acupuncture Actually Works!
How tattooed skin biopsies proved something over 4,000 years old.
Buckle up…research just dropped a bombshell that is rewriting the human anatomy textbook and high fiving ancient healers at the same time!
Deep inside your body lies an enormous, previously overlooked network called the interstitium. It is a vast, fluid filled web that acts like a secret third circulatory system alongside your blood vessels and lymphatics. It is not just empty space between tissues.
It is a dynamic, interconnected superhighway made of collagen bundles suspended in a shimmering hyaluronic acid gel that soaks up water and lets fluids, cells, and molecules flow slowly but surely throughout your entire body, from skin to muscles to organs and back again.
For over a century, scientists saw these spaces as isolated little pockets. But groundbreaking work starting in 2018 by pathologists revealed the jaw dropping truth: it is one giant, continuous network.
When researchers examined tattooed skin biopsies, the ink particles had boldly marched from the skin deep into the fascia below, traveling through the interstitium in ways that made scientists say, That was not supposed to happen!
Here is where it gets truly electrifying.
This hidden highway might finally give Western medicine the biological proof it has been craving for acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
For 4000 years, TCM has described chi flowing along 12 specific meridians. Acupuncture needles target precise points along those lines.
Skeptics have long asked for hard science. Now they have it.
Studies, including tracer injections and dye experiments in living volunteers, show that when you inject dye into an acupuncture point, it does not just sit there or race through veins.
It flows exactly along the traditional meridian pathways through the interstitial spaces between muscles, heading straight toward the heart. The dye follows the interstitium like a GPS guided river.
Rebecca Wells, one of the lead scientists, sums it up perfectly:
“I actually do think that the interstitium could be the link between Eastern and Western medicine”.
The implications are massive and mind blowing.
Cancer cells may hitch rides on this network to metastasize.
It could explain autoimmune flare ups where gut particles travel to distant organs.
It might even unlock better treatments for Type 2 diabetes by revealing how interstitial cells influence healthy fat production during weight gain.
This is not just a cool anatomy fact. It is a paradigm shift that could reshape pain management, chronic disease treatment, and how we think about the body as a whole.
Evolutionarily speaking, similar fluid systems appear in ancient creatures going back hundreds of millions of years.
The interstitium is not new. It has been with us since the dawn of multicellular life. We are only now catching up.
This discovery is pure science magic: ancient wisdom validated by cutting edge research, turning what looked like disconnected puzzle pieces into one breathtaking picture of how our bodies really work.
When reading this, be sure to send condolences to the “debunkers” that stole this 4,000 year old empirical science from your health. They were wrong.
