I printed six fresh Rome book sheets, tonight. Here are two. Two pages for me on the left, a double page spread for Bill on the right. Feeling optimistic about this project.
Toronto.
"...express that sense of falling head over heels for a thing; the artist’s job is not to transpose something he’s seen but to express the impact the object made on him, on his constitution, the shock of it and the original reaction. --Matisse, The Lost Interview. 1941
Happy memories of lunches in Rome -- Augusto in Trastevere -- lentils and sausage, bread fresh from the bakery next door and a special spring-only vignarola salad (artichoke, fava beans, peas and spring onions). Contentment.
@caputmundiHeidi Maybe in my top five Roman churches. I was sorry to miss getting in this past spring but will try on my next visit. Should be worth waiting for!
OK. Here's a crazy set of pics auditioning for our Rome 26 book. We have the statue of Marcus Aureluis on the Capitoline Hill and the stairs leading up to the Hill.
Another pair of photos auditioning for our Rome 26 book. The brothers are floating along the Street of the Marble Foot. The dog is a block away on the Street of the Pine. It was HOT that day.
I saw this ad in the London Review of Books. "contract...to research and...write a book proposal examining the...conservation and ecology of ten overlooked...non-charismatic animal species, ranging from the pygmy pig of Assam to the South American bush dog." (LRB, 25 June '26).
