Terrorism: Sokoto High Court Imposes Death Penalty on Three Including a Foreigner Arrested by DSS.

A High Court sitting in Sokoto State has sentenced three men, including a foreign national, to death by hanging, following their conviction on charges bothering on terrorism and arms proliferation.

The convicts, Yusuf Muhammad (alias Sallau), a Nigeriene, Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, and Kabiru Muhammad were apprehended on 13th June, 2025, by the Department of State Services Counter Terrorism Unit in connection with cross-border criminal activities bordering on arms trafficking and terrorism.

The case, marked SS/45c/2026, was presided over by Justice Muhammad Nuraddeen Bello of High Court No. 23, Sokoto.

Delivering judgment, Justice Bello found all three defendants guilty as charged and sentenced them to death by hanging. The court also ordered the forfeiture of all monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts to the Federal Government.

Observers say, the conviction is the latest in a series of successful prosecutions by the DSS in its sustained operations against terrorism and organised cross-border criminal networks across Nigeria

I've noticed something interesting.

When a video of Police misconduct is released, it spreads rapidly and receives widespread attention. However, when an officer is dismissed for misconduct, a kidnapped victim returns safely, or stolen goods are recovered, these positive outcomes often receive little notice.

Bad news spreads quickly because it aligns with existing expectations and requires little reflection. Good news, however, challenges us to reconsider our views, which can be uncomfortable even when supported by clear evidence.

We're not asking for blind praise. Hold us accountable for our failures, always. But hold us accountable for the good as honestly as you hold us accountable for the bad.

If only negative incidents are highlighted, positive achievements may not be trusted. When you encounter stories of justice served, victims rescued, or criminal networks dismantled, consider sharing those as well.

Tbh, striving for balance is not bias; it is fairness.

NDLEA operatives raided another industrial scale meth lab in an Oyo forest, arresting four Mexicans and recovering illicit substances worth billions of naira. This meth lab was operated by a Nigerian Mexican cartel deep within the forest of Tapa Village, Ibarapa North LGA. Oyo State.

This comes barely a month after the NDLEA uncovered and shut down a similar clandestine meth lab in a forest in Ogun State, where several Mexican suspects were also arrested.

The growing presence of Mexican drug cartel specialists in Southwest Nigeria is concerning. Kudos to the NDLEA for successfully tracking and dismantling these clandestine drug laboratories.
