Week 8
The Piano Lesson #itd055
1. Does the piano in the Piano Lesson have a symbolic meaning? If yes, why?
2. If you were to make a play of the Piano Lesson, where would you want to place the piano?
@Stay_Frostie 2. Shange uses multiple voices of women as a way to show that everyone has a different story and view on the world. While you can still find people that have gone through something similar to you and it brings the women together as one.
@Stay_Frostie 1. Shange's choreopoem adds more emotion to the play for the audience to react to and focuses more on nonverbal communication and movement instead of poetry and music.
@allison_polnau The play that relates to poetry and music gives the ladies of color a common unity and brings them together more. The music gives the audience a chance to relate to the ladies of color or to empathize with them.
@swett_pants114 Self-realization impacted the play of how you are not alone and you have people that can sympathize with you and caused a positive moment at the end play.
@TaylorH79205875 2. The lady in brown impacted the story of her backstory and how she connects the audience or reader to the play/book in the beginning and end.
@TaylorH79205875 1. Shange was thinking of committing suicide multiple times in her life and one time while she was driving, she saw a rainbow and thought of writing about stories of POC that also had trouble with suicide.
@CharlieMollahan 2.) Aaron Burr wanted to get his ideas across to be used in the government like Hamilton and wanted to beat Hamilton with creating the government the way he wanted it to be.
@CharlieMollahan 1.) I think Hamilton is similar to George Washington as they both had to help create their own government and it helped them to have similar ideas with the government as they were close together sharing ideas.
@AnaMira62006174 2.) Making history be a musical was a good idea as everyone could relate to music and mostly everyone likes music so it helps people of all ages to enjoy the play.
@AnaMira62006174 1.) The casting being mostly POC adds to the play as Hamilton didn't want to have slavery and wanted it to be abolished. It shows that even after Hamilton was gone, we still abolished slavery and had less discrimination against POC.
