@Jason In newer markets, makes sense to leverage Uber for ops + brand awareness. As Waymo fleets grow denser, don’t think the Expedia analogy holds though. It’s a far better experience and shouldn’t be demand constrained
@signulll Waymo also seems to also be tweaking their pricing these days. Used to be more expensive than uber (~30% more), I’m consistently finding it the same price or cheaper now. Why ever take an uber when Waymo is the same price (or cheaper) and wait times are <5 mins in SF?
We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Oxide Computer Company as part of their $100M Series B!
A couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to support @sdtuck and @bcantrill at the Series A. At the time, we backed their bold vision to bring hyperscaler-like infrastructure to on-premises computing, and the team has more than delivered on that promise.
Over the last few years, Oxide has built a rack-scale computer that provides enterprise customers with a modern system, bringing programmable cloud infrastructure to the on-prem market. In a space dominated by legacy incumbents, Oxide offers something entirely new: a credible choice beyond the public cloud.
The team is seeing immense demand from customers looking for cloud-like usability, on-prem economics, and unmatched latency and efficiency. We couldn’t be more excited to double down on Oxide and look forward to what comes next.
Could get even more remarkable. If AI makes R&D cheaper, standalone software companies likely reinvest savings into growth.
Holding companies don’t necessarily need to reinvest — they can just keep the cash.
Feels like a quiet AI dividend could show up
@kwharrison13 Monetization problem. Users looking for budgeting apps have low willingness to pay. People that simply want to track their net worth can’t be monetized through credit card lead gen. Hard to do unless you focus on the subset of users willing to pay for PFM (smaller group)
@_balaji_km@Uber Confused - what new TAM do AVs unlock for Uber? AVs don’t need drivers (eliminates value of the network). Agreed rollout will be staged, but Waymo is an existential threat to Uber’s intracity operations in metro areas across the country. Partnership giving big trojan horse vibes
@JaredSleeper Crowdstrike is 5x larger than SentinelOne growing at roughly the same rate. Gonna be a disconnect there - sustained growth at scale is valued at a premium
@levelsio What they’re doing with Waymo is very impressive. 15 years of work culminating in what we have today. Seems far far head of everyone else in self driving
