I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”

Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

Over the past six months, David Ellison made nine different bids for Warner Bros., and each time CEO David Zaslav swatted away the increasingly large pile of money from Ellison’s father and other investors, Ellison came back with more. $111 billion finally proved to be enough. ('The Wall Street Journal' summed up Ellison’s pursuit in a headline: “No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. OK. Yes.”) All told, the auction forced Ellison’s Paramount to pay tens of billions more than it initially offered.

Then again, what do the Ellisons care? “If one is rich enough to purchase a Hawaiian island, a second studio feels like a pittance,” a Hollywood producer who has worked with Ellison said.

Now, Ellison has the Hollywood crown — as well as $79 billion in debt and a boatload of problems to solve. How do CBS and CNN coexist? Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network? The 65-acre Paramount studio lot in Hollywood and the 110-acre Warner Bros. lot up the 101 in Burbank? And how do you operate two movie studios under one corporate roof?

A great musician has left us today. Steve Cropper or "The Colonel", was a legendary guitarist, songwriter & producer. Most will remember him as the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, who backed Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, and Johnnie Taylor.

I was fortunate to have known him. I met Steve many years ago and he asked me for a guitar lesson! He said I’ll do you a favour back. He then recorded The Staple Singers doing “Wednesday in Your Garden”, a song I wrote which was on the 1969 Guess Who album, Wheatfield Soul. Several years ago, I saw Mavis Staples and went to see her backstage. She sang the whole song song to me. It was amazing. She remembered every word.

Lots of love to his friends and family. Music lives forever. Other worlds to play in.
