@MtrKDJoyce I find myself really wanting to embrace this kind of obedience, but I can't get past the knee-jerk reaction I have from the way I was told to "just obey" God into misogyny and homophobia growing up. How do you embrace obedience without falling back into some version of that?
@dgelles @DavidMalpassWBG Original photo cred: @Unwrinkling (would love for @nytimes reporters to respect independent journalists enough to at least cite their sources when they steal photos to self-promote) https://t.co/dlVOVS0YMJ
Trans liberation would look like a world where men can be sad, women can be angry, fat people can be sexual, dark-skinned people can be in pain, and people with any kind of body or presentation can be fully human in the world without fear of violence or punishment
@debrakrienstra @KHayhoe The 5th and 6th chapters ("Reclamation and Reconciliation" + "To Be Whole and Holy") of bell hooks' Belonging: A Culture of Place are incredible. She focuses on black agrarian reconnection to land as resistance to white supremacy and the role of class in her own journey of return
@womeninchurch This isn't necessarily "survey" material, but I would highly recommend looking at something like Tink Tinker's "The Stones Shall Cry Out," as Indigenous Christians are the only ones speaking on this subject with any authority or consistency imo
@csdalwood Charlotte, I know you may not even remember me from YDS, but I have prayed for you a lot in the last year, and I am praying intensely for you now. I am really grateful for your presence, and I deeply want you to stay with us. Check back in with us if you can โค๏ธ
@l_melo_h2 Jesus Christ have mercy. That is really, really painful and I am sorry it is happening. Also be assured that it is deeply relevant to masculinity and fits very much within the intent of this account.
@l_melo_h2 But that's of course incredibly unfair to the people who love me and need to be angry with me sometimes. It's just another version of demanding emotionlessness from people, which I'm super not into! So there is yet much work to be done in my heart.
@l_melo_h2 I continue to struggle against thinking inside that emotional logic of violence, not only for myself but with others. I tend to see anything other than a calm, collected, detached statement of someone's anger as a threat of violence bc that's what it was in the model I was given.
