@TheSkyStrikers@NickBruzon I realise that this thread is now weeks old but I thought that you might be interested to see what I discovered in the programme for the Carlisle United v Matlock Town FA Cup tie in January 1977.
@joncolman I agree about Workington and am neutral about Darlington but I'm not sure what either team will gain from the Fleetwood fixture. At one time, there would always be one high profile home friendly, usually against one of the North East 'big three'. I suppose times have changed ...
Rare footage from 1914 - 1918 of British ‘Fireman Nurses’. These women were trained in firefighting and emergency response in addition to their nursing duties. Here they are during their fire drill exercises. #InternationalNursesDay
@joncolman@newsandstar There is still too much dead wood in the contracted group, a legacy of various terrible decisions made under the previous management regime. I hope some of this cohort can be moved on and replaced by better footballers who actually want to play for Carlisle United.
@1968Tv A fantastic selection from my favourite World Cup finals tournament. It was great to see some of the less well-remembered goals. The free kick from Jerzy Gorgon against Haiti was astonishing. Thank you so much for sharing this compilation.
@Bjafn_cufc It depends on what your expectations are and these are largely conditioned by age. Those of us who started supporting in the 1970s know what this club is capable of and will never accept finishing third in the National League, even though we know we are where we deserve to be.

@TheSkyStrikers@MemorabiliaMal After extensive research, I am pleased to confirm that Nessie made it back on the bill for the 1978 event, whilst Johnny's Rocco's were still going strong, albeit after a tweak to their name ...
@TheSkyStrikers@MemorabiliaMal Two years later, Nessie had been replaced by the Justin Funn Showgroup but at least Johnny's Rocco's were still going strong ...
@keithelliott94@joncolman If anyone is familiar with the 1979 film The Warriors, it accurately foretells the experience of Carlisle fans trying to get from Boundary Park to the railway station that night.
@joncolman A similar story to 2003-2004; hopelessly adrift by Christmas, followed by a strong recovery that eventually proved to not be quite strong enough. Trying to sustain second tier status on crowds of around 3,000 was an impossible task.
