That's just...not too smart. Israel, like it or not, is our military linchpin in the Middle East. Nearly all of the aid is military (similar to Ukraine, currently getting more from us than Israel). Israel is required to 1. use the money to buy arms from the US, 2. share military technology with us, and 3. share intelligence. Israel does not need or use the money to pay retirement or health plans, as Ukraine does.
Now tell us what we get for the huge sums provided to Egypt and Jordan. I'll help: political stability, cracking down on Islamist jihadis and not playing footsie with China.
We get real bang for buck with Israel.
