Pierre Thomas drew this in 1778. Loved the glimpse of stocking. Her face is so non-apologetic. It was so fun to capture the tone and the dress of the period.

La Revue de La Mode, was a highly prominent, illustrated French fashion magazine, originally published in Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries (approx. 1872–1913). Loved this “costume.” Had to sketch it.

George Morrison’s drawing of “Black Ravine” (1949) was exciting to do. Love his shapes and touch of color.

Maxime Lalanne in France did this sketch. I was so struck by its innocence. Done in about 1870. He was known for his etching… but this drawing capture me to try and see what was behind his work

I thought this anonymous watercolor was very appropriate for the Kentucky Derby. Done in 1830, it certainly poked some fun at the fashion of the day!

E.F. Seedling Amaryllis 1819, May 1824 by Priscilla Susan Bury was amazing. Only had time for ½ of the work. But such grace and elegance

“Modern Art and Politics in Germany 1910–1945” Exhibit is superb. Picasso did “seated woman” in 1909. Compared mine to the catalogue. After “finishing” my sketch, I went into the gallery and took a few notes. (oops forgot her second nose.)

“Modern Art and Politics in Germany 1910–1945” Exhibit is superb. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner “Self Portrait” grabbed me. The exhibit has an excellent catalogue. After “finishing” my sketch, I went into the gallery and took a few notes.

1799 is when this watercolor was created: Collard Purple Creeper-Male. William Hayes did many birds during his life. Loved the pose of the bird: True action shot.

Mia’s collection has a ton of watercolors from the late 18thcentury. What struck me this week were the HATS!!!! I found this one amazing and worthy of any “Easter Parade” or “Kentucky Derby” celebration.

The Mia collection has a lot of watercolors of birds painted between 1700 – 1750. This one by Charles Collino caught my attention. Typically, I do not draw birds, but this one was great exercise. Loved the turn of his head.

Jules David (French) did “two women at the theatre” in 1866. Again he captures the dress of a certain type of class. Love how the women are looking at two different things.

Jules David (French) did this watercolor sometime between 1872 – 88. It is a small piece do I am thankful for my magnifying glasses and pencil sharpener.

Loved the lines of the early 19th century watercolor: The Siberian Crocus. In late winter, this was a great study.

Anais Colin Toudouze’s painting of 2 women picking flowers is so delicate. Done in the mid-19th century it captures the dress of the time. Will need to brush up my drapery skills. I took the liberty of only focusing on one of the ladies.

Tony Berlant did a study for his large lobby piece for Mia: Mountain Journey. (1991) He is heavily influenced by ancient Chinese Scrolls. The abstract piece I sketched was a study for the larger work. It captures the flow of the piece.
